If that works as an explanation opposite to redshift, then it's coming at us, hard and mean, like from the jet of a blazar. Or maybe elsewise it's that creature from the 1957 horror flick, "Night of the Demon" (aka "Curse of the Demon"), in which some poor schlemiel has less than three days to live.
