Any of you chaps up for tea & scones? October 21 or 22?

The Boy and I will be passing through London on our way back to Tokyo from Rome. Of course we can go to a pub - but as previously mentioned preggers gomi can't drink at the moment. Boy likes his beer though. So far plans are flexible as to time and place. 9 months is a really, really long time btw...

  • London, Rome... none of these places are nearby Goms!!
  • Sowwy Suo.....
  • thoughtless woman
  • Tea at the Ritz, huh? I could probably manage that.
  • Seconded. But tea at the Ritz is expensive and (I hear) not so great - where's a nice place we can go?
  • Message to Pallas Athene: what was that tea and cake place we went to in Soho?
  • And you can't pass through Christchurch on your way? *sighs* I even have baby clothes you could have...
  • We are never going to get the Boy in a tie.... Ooo special choccie one at the Chesterfield Mayfair....
  • And you can't pass through Christchurch on your way? *sighs* It's about time some more of your buggers started coming over this way!
  • *you buggers tired pukey gomis should really go to bed
  • But -- but -- I'll be there the month after! You'll just have to rearrange your plans. It's not too late -- you can still change them without too great a penalty. Chop chop!
  • A colleague once told me he had a particularly good tea at the Wallace Collection, no tie required: but they seem to have a new restaurant which may have changed things.
  • Whose boogers are going which way?
  • Now remember, an elevator is called a lift, a truck is called a lorry, and botulism is called steak and kidney pie. ---Marge Simpson
  • Tea and scones is just a euphemism
  • For rampant bum-sex. We all do it. *de-wedges*
  • Damn you people. Damn you all. But not Gomi cuz preggers is teh skwee.
  • *puts some boogers in an envelope*
  • Awww, I wanna come. Stupid lack of teleporter technology...
  • Aww I wish everyone could come have a cuppa! Will it make it worse to know that the mothninja and I are going to be hanging out in Florence beforehand?
  • The only thing that made it bearable AT ALL was that you were going to be in Rome, not Florence. So yeah, thanks. I'm going to go cry now. /still hormonal
  • Normally I'd be feeling really sorry for myself right now, but I'm having my own totally awesome meetup next month, so suck it.
  • But how could I go to Italy and not go to Florence? I mean it's just a train ride away from Rome! Anyway there is still time HBS! Leave Fatso with mct and get on a plane! He'll cope (^_^).
  • GOD DAMN YOU ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
  • He would follow me across the Atlantic and dump a bucket of Fatso's spit-up on my head if I did that. Might be worth it anyhow. Hey, when are you due anyway, Gomi? You can have a drink after the first trimester, you know...
  • I hear in German doctors recommend a glass of stout per day during pregnancy.
  • I'm 9 weeks something now so we aren't quite there yet - although in Asia we don't have the same attitude to drinking when pregnant as elsewhere, I haven't felt like it really. I know a glass now and then of vino or beer is fine - right now I'm focusing on just keeping stuff down (^_^) That's probably because of the folates tracicle. Really I'm just taking the path of moderation with everything. Nibbling on what I feel like without stressing too much about it, having a coffee now and then and so on. I'm not giving up my bloody sushi that's for sure. Or my turtles. Some of the websites I've come across have just been damn scary I tell you. I have given up smoking completely - because a whiff of cigarette smoke = guaranteed pukey. I'm also taking preggo vitamins - although the person who designed them has never had morning sickness because damn they are hard to get down. Anyways - thought it might be fun to do something a bit different for a meetup for a change (^_^).
  • Quidders-- that was Yauatcha, and it was indeed lovely. They do good dim sum too. My other favourite tea place is the Kandy Tea Room, near High Street Kensington tube.
  • Count me in! I'll shout you a scone.
  • I demand a shoutout. Preferable made of tea leaves and bits of scone.
  • Yay! TDM!
  • I think (probably, most likely) count me in too!
  • Gomi, darling, talk to your OB. There are some prenatal vites that are much better than others for keeping nausea at bay. Some are more expensive, but some just have a different formulation. Careful of the sushi and the turtles! However, I don't know why you'd have to give up either. Just make sure the sushi is fresh, has been well refrigerated, and has plenty of vinegar/ginger/spicing on it to acid-cook it. Best to wash out the turtle's bowl and handle them with rubber gloves on, and wash your hands and use hand sanitizer. GramMa isn't trying to nag, but we worry about you, dear. Eat a Turtle
  • Yeah don't have a lot of faith in my team of OBs. They haven't mentioned supplements - I'm taking them from my own research. I always wash my hands with kirei kirei (special super anti-bacterial soap) after handling the turtles anyway since I got them 4 years ago. Wasabi and soy sauce is the way to go. Most sushi is refrigerated before hand - and tuna has always been frozen before being processed via the fish markets. Don't think I'll be out there catching myown fish for a bit (^_^).
  • *poke*
  • That is so cool!
  • Gomi leads the shoutout competition. Which I started. Just now.
  • Also a little mini-meetup piccie here
  • What a great idea. And so nicely photographed!
  • I'm not being funny, but I didn't see my name anywhere in those pics. For this, you die.
  • You shouted out Fatso! I didn't see that yesterday!
  • I did. Because I love him more. Most beautiful shoutout ever. I may frame it.
  • This is unacceptable.
  • It's glorious! I love the tentacles on tracicle's.
  • kit, you're probably on the one that sank.
  • *contemplates buying that Popbitch login after all*
  • i'm queso the sailor man....
  • shoutouts on sexy witches hats!
  • I've never felt so...so...so starboard before.
  • That is one kick-ass-and-take-names set of shoutouts. Arrrr, hoist ye the TUMsail!
  • Yes. Fucking brilliant
  • None of the boats actually sank, mirabile dictu, but they did spin round like buggers in the breeze so it was really difficult to get a pic of them with the names visible. There are dozens of photos with my hand in the way trying to keep them the right way round, but to little avail. Very sorry to anyone whose shoutout can't be read! We did our best!
  • *in-no-way-mollified face*
  • Thanky thanky, darlins! And the exclusion of Kit made it that much sweeter!
  • *still smirking*
  • Bravo, gomi and mothninja!! ))) all around! *feels honored to be on the same boat as H-dogg, Koko, Bluehorse and Bone!! (and whoever else is on the other side that I can't make out)*
  • Yeah sorry - we didn't allow for turny around factor in the water. Feel the love in general though.
  • I WAS ON THE LOVE BOAT WITH TUM!!!!
  • Obviously, boat 5 is the cool boat.
  • (Oh, and on the subject of an actual London sconefest, I can do the 22nd but not the 21st-- probably the reverse of most. I've got speedlime staying with me too.)
  • F.R.O.S.Hs.
  • Um well I am in London kids... what shall we do?
  • Nominate a place and time.
  • Eg, we could take up Pallas' suggestion of the Kandy Tea Room, 4pm? How many are we??
  • I can make that.
  • Ok this afternoon at 4pm. Kandy tea room. I will be there!
  • ... so Plegmund and I bump into each other outside the Kandy Tea Room at four o'clock. The now-defunct Kandy Tea Room. 40 minutes later, unable to avail ourselves of either tea or scones, and with no gomichild in sight, we cut our losses and head home. Still, it was a nice day to cycle over the river and through the parks.
  • Has it not occurred to you that no one ever...EVER...sees gomichild and Plegmund together in the same place???!!! I put it to you: they are one and the same!
  • (From the link above) Closest Public Transport Kensington (Olympia) - National Railway Well Mr Gomichild and I have just got back from Kensington Olympia station area - and let me tell you there is fucking NOTHING THERE. There is a Holland Road but no Holland Street. And none of the 12 people living or working there has even heard of a Holland St. Also there are only 2 trains a damn hour to that station on Sundays. So not only is the link incorrect but now it's defunct? Um.... Mostly I'm upset I couldn't see you guys this time.
  • Yeah, that link is unhelpful: High Street Kensington (Underground) is much closer, not to mention better served. Kensington Olympia is probably a quarter of an hour away on foot. There is a Holland Road but no Holland Street. And none of the 12 people living or working there has even heard of a Holland St. Ah yes, I see on the map that there is a Holland Park Road near Kensington Olympia. It's nowhere near Holland Street, though. Damn. Maybe that explains the misdirection on the link. It's a real shame we couldn't meet up. (Although next time, we must sort out some kind of phone or other communication!)
  • Were we not doing the 22nd?
  • :(
  • isn't gomi teh sexxay when she swears?
  • Me-ow!
  • I am so sorry.
  • So does this mean there were no shoutouts?
  • Unfortunately not, but there was wailing and gnashing of teeth.
  • Oh dear, what a mess, what a shame.
  • You see? THIS is what happens when you miss me off the boat. *schaudenfraud face*
  • My question here is shall we not meet tonight?
  • I have an idea, why don't you guys meet tonight?
  • I'd second that.
  • *schaudenfraud face* Whatever, bra-boy.
  • Couldn't you have written down your wailing and gnashing on post-its and sent pictures?
  • Shall we? Name your time, name your place. I'm back in London and feeling horribly guilty for the bad link to the out-of-business tearoom and would like to make amends by buying a round of scones for all.
  • I'd meet you anytime Pallas, but have we lost Gomichild, etc? If it's just you and me let's just go see some Mahler or something.
  • Is that what the kids call it these days?
  • I'd assume that could mean anything from hot sex to attempting to forsee the future via the contents of squished squirrel intestines.
  • think he'll play the resurrection symphony for the encore, doood??? \m/
  • Mahler! You're on, quidmeister. I'll bring the offstage brass, you bring the armloads of unnecessary percussion instruments.
  • This I've gotta see.
  • You shouldn't feel guilty, Pallas. Had I nominated somewhere else, had I looked more closely at the site, had I linked to a map (which I very nearly did), had I offered a phone number... It's a shame, but...
  • Pleggers, you are too kind.
  • Oh well messes happen. Sorry couldn't meet tonight had plans to meet a dear old friend for dinner. Back home to Tokyo tomorrow morning - will see you there!
  • Worst. Meetup. Evar.
  • Really
  • N00bs
  • I met up with klue and two MeFi bods! We all arrived in good time to the right venue! Suck it!
  • Pix of shoutouts plskthx! :P
  • I know klue took some pictures, as did the nice lady from MeFi, but not I. And we didn't shout-out. Cos we're mean.
  • You didn't even get her name? *turns back on Abiezer, sniffs*
  • A gentleman never tells of course, Lara.
  • Can the gentleman do charades?
  • Alright then, here goes: Did you catch that?
  • Baby Fishmouth!
  • That's just my natural expression, as well you know!
  • No shoutouts. *puts hands on hips, turns to the rest of the Monkeys... WELL! We certainly know who are friends are now, don't we?
