Which microlender makes best use of my $20?
  • OOoooo that was interesting ta HawthorneWingo.
  • Thanks for posting this, HW.
  • That's fascinating. I've been looking for a charity that can make good use of the relatively small amount I can give--I can't do a Bill Gates thing and wipe out a whole disease, but I want to accomplish SOMETHING. That article is a great starting point. Thanks for posting, HW.
  • The only thing that's a little disappointing is that except for Prosper, these are micro-grants that you would be making, not microloans. You have to trust the end organization to do what they say they're doing. The great strength of microlending is that the requirement that the money be paid back creates accountability all the way down the line.
  • Whoops, my bad. Kiva.org does appear to pay back the original lender. Woohoo! That is teh good.
  • What a cool idea! Great article! (Although as a single woman with no children, of course I was a bit irked at the article's initial assumption that we all get tax refunds big enough to do something extra with...)
  • Thanks for the link!
  • This is a great, great link. I've been thinking about micro-loans since I read a couple of articles last year, but never got around to finding out more about the organisations that conduct micro-loans. *puts aside a bit of cash for loans*
