WWJD? Starting your own Christian Church? You need to start here!!
  • I fwwl sad for this thread so I am posting a link to purple sausage.
  • The lurkers are obviously throwing a party in this thread again. In reference to cellular antennas: As an elder in a Presbyterian church just outside of Philadelphia, Penn., I'm constantly asked, "How do we get one of those antennas on our steeple?" This question is invariably followed with, "And how much can we make from it?"
  • If Christ didn't like Halloween, he would have never come back from the dead.
  • Wow this is truly confusing, if not outright bizarre. I appreciate there must be a million things a modern church . . person . . has to think about but . yeek. I would expect Jesus to hack into the site and turn over all the virtual tables.
  • Good Lord On Fire! This thread is ripe with goodies!! Give them a real treat! For less than $13, families can get their own Halloween Rescue Kit from the American Tract Society (ATS), containing 62 pieces of candy, 31 bags for treats, 31 stickers and 31 colorful kids’ tracts. And for less than 50 cents each, all-in-one treat packs are also available. Inside, kids find one “Here’s a Treat” tract, a sticker and two pieces of candy. GET THE FIRST EVER GLOW IN THE DARK TRACT!
  • I giggle when Xians run away from Halloween (although they invented it), yet embrace Easter (although it's pagan).
  • ... Xians run away from Halloween (although they invented it) ... Actually, Halloween's northern European pagan origins lie in pre-Xian festivals such as Samhain, etc.
  • I like the Norwegian practice of killing things to honor elves, personally. It would appear that most (if not all) Christian holy days are derived from non-Christian sources. Halloween, however, being accepted by the Church itself by establishing November 1st as All Saints Day and October 31st as All Hallows' Eve, is still pretty much the same holiday that we celebrate today (although much more commercialized, like Christmas is). What makes me giggle is that Xians see the holiday as a Satan-rich Sin Festival, and hold their Harvest Festivals so as not to contaminate their candy. On the other hand, Easter and Christmas are both sourced as pagan, yet Xians embrace them still. I suppose a fat guy in a red suit and a bunny are spiritually safer than a witch on a broom.
  • It's worse. Church 2.0
  • hallowe'en in its irish form was recognizable as a harvest festival 20 years ago. instead of candy, children would request apples and nuts. of course, the festival that was exported to the u.s. has since been reimported to ireland and kids are now "trick or treating", which would never happen when i were a lad. wikipedia is wrong to use the term "Oíche Samhain" - it should be "Oíche Shamhna" (ee-hu how-na genitive singular form of Samhain).
  • Edit that beyotch roryk! Monkey Fi! *salutes*
