"Moving Mannequins
was established to fulfill the demand for an extremely lifelike display mannequin, which when coupled with movement, stimulates emotion and draws excited attention to the display." Eeeerie.
-
Must be a little chilly at Mannequin Central.
-
I wonder how much they cost? And that website is impossible to navigate!
-
yeah it is a lousy site -- is that flash? if so, flash warning to all. here's direct link to models. NSFW if you put your cursor on them, it shows them nekkid. (i love the way the model turrrrns slooooowly to look at you on the first page. heh.)
-
In the same vein, I find this prototype fairly creepy. (Check the vids for maximum effect)
-
Sooooo.., um, are they anatomically correct? Just askin...
-
Unimpressive.
-
Will they never learn? I thought everyone had heard of the Uncanny Valley by now. You might as well have them say, "Braaaaaiiiinnnnsss" or similar.
-
Okay, so I watched their "Public Reaction" video, and I noticed exactly what I expected: nobody looked at the clothing on the mannequins, just the head and, in one case, looking up the skirt. The other thing is, once the mannequin moved, everybody ran. At least have it do The Robot. I could respect that out of a mannequin.
-
I liked the public reaction part when people tried to wave and get its attention.
-
How about a flash warning...
-
Ooh, or have it turn to face people standing there, then make the eyes glow red. Bonus points if you can get a completely non-visible IR lamp to make their face feel warm when it happens. That would complete the freak-out, I think.
-
monkeyfilter: once the mannequin moved, everybody ran sorry, argh, you may have missed it, "is that flash? if so, flash warning to all" upthread
-
Koant, in the first video for for the link you provided the robot looked like like it was gonna throw up.
-
I hope they make one that looks like Kim Cattrall.
-
I hate watching Benny Hill re-runs.
-
If they want extremely life-like, they'll need to make one that's a size 12 that not only moves its head, but struggles to get into a pair of jeans.
-
Autons! Run for your lives!
-
Koant, that child-bot is the stuff of nightmares. A prototype for a future 'GITS2: Innocence' bot...
-
Flagpole: speaking of child-bot and nightmares, ever see Screamers? Heh.
-
Screamers was a terrible adaptation of P.K. Dick's Second Variety. I was sorry to have paid money to watch it. That being said, that kidbot is straight out of Dick's nightmares.
-
These models are simply ugly. They neither inflame my ardour nor make me want to buy this season's latest look. The have failed. Make them fight each other.
-
Autons!
-
like rodgerd said!
-
Heh. What MsVader said.
