The Kitten Has Two Faces
Shamelessly stolen directly from MetaFilter. They suggest Zaphod as a name. I would go with Harvey Dent.
SideDish -- sit down before you view this one.

i JUST saw that!!! me-me ow-ow. kinda cute, ain't he?
-
Oh god, that was scary. Like, just, no. That's wrong. Very wrong. I didn't even look closely and I still feel completely...so wrong.
-
If there were a lump floating in a toilet bowl somewhere in the world that vaguely resembled a kitten, SideDish would think that it was cute (of course, if it resembled the Virgin Mary I would make a fortune off it).
-
Looks like there's major problems with the lower jaw. Of course, I couldn't bring myself to look at the enlarged image so I could be wrong.
-
That kitty could star in The Funhouse (1981), along with the two-faced cow. And I don't care whatchoo say, that movie is AWESOME.
-
Poor girl. Stuff like that always looks so painful to me.
-
How is this best of the web? Hehe, cheers Bernockle.
-
disturbing
-
Highly doubtful it will live that long. Usually visible major deformity like this is accompanied by internal problems. I'm not one that thinks it's cute. It rather upsets me that someone would spend a thousand dollars or more on trying to save an animal like this when that money could be used to help healthy, loving pets that could live a normal lifespan rather than being put down.

In most cases of two heeded creatures, one head does the eating and breathing, since the path ways are only connected to that head. Matter of fact, it's pretty much always the case. I heard of a two headed snake morn in Asia somewhere that people had seen both heads eat, but it was largely suspected of being false (not the creature, just the reports of both heads eating). Usually, but not always, the non-dominant head is pretty dang retarded, and behaves like it's just a head shaped growth of the creatures neck. Two-faces on one head is even more rare, I've only seen and heard of this phenomenom on kttens, actually. I'd like to know more about the eating habits of two-faced creatures, especially this one. It looks like it has no jaw, just a tangle of meet between the two mouths. Most two headed creatures have much shorter lives than their bretheren.

Born in Asia!

*shudders* Most kittens are fine to me. THAT.....is beyond words.
-
i am an all-inclusive kitten adorer. i do not discriminate on the basis of additional body parts.
-
Oooh, it's so UGLY! If they put it on kittenwar.com it could definitely knock my kitty from 61st uglisest to 62nd ugliest.
-
perhaps there is a delightful children's book in this: "the little kitty with two faces."
-
We do kittens better than Metafilter anyway.
-
I bet it talks about its siblings behind their backs. Sorry, but the only thing to do is destroy it.
-
I agree, Skrik. And BlueHorse is right - the time, effort, and money would be better invested in another kitty with a better chance at a pain-free, long, happy life.
-
poor sad kitten. sad kittens make me sad. can we have a happy kitten now? please?

I don't think anyone's planning on hooking it to a dialysis machine or whatever. It doesn't take that much effort to continue giving it food, it's not as big as a strain as you guys are making it sound. Even Mike the headless chicken survived a year and a half with this same amount of minimal care. There's nno need to actively destroy it. Keep feeding it, if it dies, then it dies; if it doesn't, then why kill it? The extra time, effort, and money required to keep feeding it is negligible.

Koko's kittens have much more aesthetic appeal, to say nothing of better prospects in life. I recognise no merit in that picture, other than leaving me to wonder what other curiosities of nature this person is trying to produce. / not your posting of it, bernockle, but the dispensing of it originally. Any reputatable breeder would not allow such deformity to persevere. From kittens to cash chimeras, perhaps?

kitten kitten kitten kitten A KITTEN JIUST GRABBED MY BALLS. Damn you and your whatever.
-
Mr. K: Actually, I've seen people invest ten thousand dollars in an animal that has slim to no chance of surviving. Even assuming this cat won't need some sort of surgery to correct something wrong inside, the costs of IVs and antibiotics, plus the vet care and clinic stay for a mere week can total a thousand dollars. Sure, I can get down with with feeding it and taking decent basic care to see that it survives, but not with heroic measures to prolong its life. I won't get into my feelings on culling breeding stock. I said CULLING, not killing. Why reproduce something that has problems to begin with. Spay and neuter all but the best. The reason we have such poor quality, unusable horses in so many breeds is the "Lame? We'll breed it!" mentality.
-
I bet it talks about its siblings behind their backs. It probably talks about ITSELF behind its own back.
-
You know, literally. Because it has two mouths. OK, I'll stop now.
-
Yeah, the lady that bred the kitty sounds like a pretty irresponsible breeder. Instead of becoming an expert on one breed -- or even species -- it sounds like she breeds whatever strikes her fancy, including whatever "minature cats" are. People like this reproduce all sorts of genetic yuckiness into pets.
-
I'm still backing Granma. There are an excess of people who regard an 'open' female animal as a waste of money and breed regardless of any factors. In the '70's I had an Arabian stallion, that I raised from a weanling, who became a regional champion by three years. After breeding two of my mares, I had to accept his lack of prepotency and had his balls...culled? It was a challenge when my dog grabbed a testicle and I had to chase him all over to give it a decent funeral. (the testicle, not the dog.) Horses have very big balls. *sigh* /remembers farm castrations as such fun times.
-
My grandmother had that problem. One of the bext dogs from the kennel - champion, beautiful, and a terrific personality (he lived with us for over a year, and never was there a nicer dog) - shot complete blanks.
-
"Miniature" cats. Aren't those really called "runts?" And if unless the miniature gene is dominant, which it won't be, it's a bad idea to breed with a full-sized male. That poor cat could have been seriously hurt in childbirth (kittenbirth?). Or am i just full of it here?
-
I guess that you could say the most minature breeds came from "runts". We had a number of minature daschunds and they were great, smart little dogs. Oh, and speaking of breeding animals, I want to breed a minature chihuahua with a great dane. The resulting breed will be called a "great wa-wa".
-
They weren't blanks, jb. He just threw shitty looking foals. They had none of his 'type', hence being virtually worthless regardless of pedigree. I sold them as grade instead. That does remind me of a mare I had who had two false pregnancies. Had milk in her udder and went through labour, both times. Breeding quality animals is an onerous responsibility sometimes. Nowadays I'm content to cross my fingers.
-
I'm soooo glad with my username.

Mr. K: Actually, I've seen people invest ten thousand dollars in an animal that has slim to no chance of surviving. I have, too. I just haven't see a reason to think the same will go on here. The owner's may need to bottle feed it for it's entire life, but that's not that big of hardship. I don't see a how that's comparable to tens of thousands of dollars in medical treaatment for Cancer Cat. I do think the cases like that are sad, for multiple reasons. I just think it's a huge jump of the gun to assume this will become one of those.
-
mare, I've always 'vocalised' your name with an accent on a short 'a'. Or possibly on the 'e'. If I think of the actual word then immediately I remember my most wonderful 3/4 Arabian/French Coach, who was the most beautiful girl to look at and ride. She was naturally five-gaited and could clean up in any type of pleasure-riding class and people would applaud when we rode into the ring. *sighs from distant memories*
-
Yeah baby! Bring it on! What a cool name for a bi-visage feline!
-
and a puppy friend...
-
Ouch, patita. Don't you dare post a double-headed bird next.
-
Gawrsh! A rare biwillied arachnopom!
