Translating sound into colour and colour into sound
some other cool (and potentially more-frequently-updated) software for getting sounds from images, and vice versa:

Victor Khashchanskiy's BitMaps & Waves (also check out his Sound 2D Warper program.. in fact, check out everything from both guys, almost all of it is freeware!)

I dunno, man, many synaesthetes have been great artists. It's certainly much more common among artists than it is among the general population.
