The MiniBosses.
They play only music from classic Nintendo Entertainment System videogames. And they are rock stars. (via The World of Stuart Forum)
A couple of their songs can be found on their site.
Unlockable extras:
Some Metafilter threads on game music (1, 2).
The best game music ever, where you'd least expect it.
All the c64 music you could ever want.
Not bad, not bad at all.
They remind me a lot of The (Fucking) Champs.
I just sent a friend insane with the Ariston link. Thankyou!
Super Bonus Extra:
Arcade Ambience
As a child of the 80s, I will never forget the feeling of walking into a crowded arcade -- the sounds, smells, excitement, etc. This page is dedicated to recreating the audio portion of that experience in the form of a long, non-looping ambient audio track.
Video game music, you say?
OverClocked Remixed sez I.
On a semi-related note, The 14 Year Old Girls are certainly worth checking out. They are a punk band who write lots of songs about classic videogames. "Pac-Man is in Egypt" is a personal favorite.
overclocked is the shiznit.
oh, and that ambient arcade is AMAZING. Etnomusicologists of the future should be able to use this missing link to trace back the history of electronic music to galaga.
Super Madrigal Brothers could kick their ass.
Bitshifter: all songs composed and recorded on a Gameboy.
Oh, jeez, what forky said about Ambient Arcade. I spent so much of 1981 in video arcades - I may rock myself to sleep with that track this week....
Esotronica remixed the music to Dark Tower [mp3] (the Milton Bradley "electronic" boardgame) into another 80s flashback.
Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion soundtracks
Deus Ex Soundtrack
Original SNES soundtracks (you'll need a winamp plugin to play these)
Playstation 1 and 2 original soundtracks (you'll need a winamp plugin to play these, too)
Duracell - plays space harrier and turrican tunes on his drums. This video is magnificent
