The Radio Jingle is Dead. Long live the Jingle!
I think I'll use the Old ABC Radio News Theme from that jinglefreaks link as my entrance music for awhile . . .
That said, I hate (hate hate hate, etc) advertising and jingles are a part of that. Jingle writers are little better than gossip-rag "reporters". However, I'm not big on Cadillac using Led Zep tunes either.
Somebody kick a baby boomer in the ass for me.
The Zeppelin thing pisses me off more, personally. If you want to write music for ads, that's fine. Do what you gotta do to pay the bills. But when you're a rich and talented musician, please resist the urge to put your song in a beer commercial. Don't sing for Gap ads, if you don't need the money.
Well, I can't say I hate advertising, since it's the reason my radio plays music for free, but I'll second (third) the LedZep thing. The problem is that a lot of the old music isn't owned by the artists, but by some sleazy ex-manager (or Michael Jackson). The real sellouts are the ones using their current songs in ads (I'm looking at you, Lenny Kravitz).
good point about the sleazy managers. (Hello Allen Klein? Would you sell me rights to "Satisfaction" for $1? Hey thanks!)
I don't buy Nike either. And you know exactly why.
