MoFi sorta meetup?! we are having an impromptu los angeles get-together as we speak...type...whateva!

sooo...had to work at 4 am today (xmas breakdown) so i just went out last night, stayed up, then took the bus to work...worked, fell asleep on the bus home, sorted that out, hitched a ride with squidranch, and am now in his lovely pad with cat Bert (Burt). Squiddys throwing on a tuxedo and then we're off to meet SpaceKitty and SpaceKitten (her lovely daughter that we haven't had the opportunity to meet yet) at what has been described to me as a 'Saturnalia' (OMG, I LOVE Saturn) somewhere in rancho whateveramonga....so I've had no sleep for some number of hours (lost math skills already), am halfway thru my first vodka tonic, am slathered in chanel cologne, and am feeling saucy...so here's the contest...It's 4:28pm right now...can you predict when I'll a) slur my speech, b) lose my brown pin-stripe slacks, c) make more threats against the president's life on mofi, or d) fall asleep somewhere inappropriate? factors to take into consideration....I am bringing to the party a)new iBook b)plastic santa with ass full of mints c) big box of chocolate covered pretzels d) no inhibitions whatsoever. let the contest begin!

  • You fuckers. Wait a couple of days and I'll be there (I'm in San Diego right now). Either Wed. or Thurs. night? (the_bone)
  • Sexyrobot, email me. Address is in my profile. Going to dinner with family right now, but I'll be around a little later.
  • Argh! So jealous! Stuck in the wintry midwest far from Rancho Whateveramonga.
  • Oh, that sounds like sooo much fun! I hope you all have a fabulous time! Have a very strong drink for me!!
  • Pics...who gots da pics
  • What Argh said!
  • Dang. I had a car this weekend, too. Checked in too late.
  • Once again we are at my pad. I've got the fantastically sexy robot and the very kitty like space kitty at my apartment after a night of debauchary at my friend Evan's house. These people, (the other mofi folks) have become good friends, not just another internet connection, but really good friends.
  • kill the president.
  • Hey kids! Space Kitty here. Grand time was had by all, we really missed our other monkeys. This meetup was distinguished by the presence of the one & only Space Kitten, it was an honor to have her there. *smiles* And we heart squidranch as well, and I completely concur with sexyrobot's wrap up of the evening. Oh, yes! Pantsoff was achieved at precisely 19:58 hours, PST by sexyrobot for everyone who was keeping score at home. And also, the_bone, check your email. (Darshon, we gotcha covered)
  • Well, that's an evening I'm sorry to have missed.
  • I'll be up later this week. Huzzah!
  • Dammit. Wish I either lived close enough to talk someone into a ride or else had something resembling gas money. This is the first (at least pseudo) meetup that's anywhere near me that did not happen while I had classes to prevent me from going. *grumble* *seethe*
  • MonkeyFilter: Pantsoff was achieved
  • "Pantsoff was achieved at precisely 19:58 hours, PST by sexyrobot" What Mfpb 2 21 said...
  • haha
  • Christophine: Man, if there's any way you can finagle coming down on Wednesday, that would be rad beyond belief! (I understand about the vehicle situation, so it's no big deal if it doesn't happen, but it would rock)
  • come on, pics already
  • Is there another meetup this Wednesday? I'll be back in LA (weather permitting) that afternoon.
  • I'd like to do a meetup on Wednesday, since it looks like that may be the only night I can do it. If that works for people, I'm so down.
  • I'm putting in long hours this week (for the payoff of having a perfectly clean desk in the new year) so will likely miss Wednesday.
  • I just got back from the day after with sexyrobot and space kitty. We went to little Tokyo near downtown and had Japanese food then went to the weird little market and shops in one of the shopping center there. We all bought odd Japanese sodas (Calpis or Pokari Sweat anyone?) and a chocolate covered stick called Pocky for Men. For everone's information, we intend to do another semi official meet up Wednesday night at the Brass Monkey Kareoke bar on Wilshire. We'll post on the main page after we work the details out.
  • Coolio. If you can include an address that would be lovely, since I don't know LA all that well and will have to indulge in hot Mapquest action.
  • Here's citysearch's info on that funky monkey. Am I right in thinking this is downtown? 'Cause I've never been downtown, so I'm looking forward to this new and exciting experience. I've never been so far east! (In LA, that is).
  • not Quite downtown...its my neighborhood...its got a few less junkies on the street...GOOFYFOOT WILL BE THERE AS A CLEAN DESK IS UNNECESSARY FOR NORMAL HUMAN FUNCTIONING.
  • Ah, well, that shows how much I know. It's a new area for me to discover, so I'm geeked. Plus it's on the express bus line. Yee haw. And still the mystery of downtown will remain as a strip of buildings I see on clear days from my kitchen window. Goofyfoot--most meetups involve drinking for long periods of time. Clean that desk if you must and then come have a drink. Chances are quite good that we'll still be there.
  • So who's in? Space Kitty, Sexyrobot and myself are taking the whole of tomorrow to recouperate, so we's in. Mandyman I am guessing you are in, if weather permits, el_hueso I trust will be there, so goofyfoot, the pressure is on you. Hope you can put up with a messy desk for our sake. BTW, when I surfed and skateboarded, I rode goofyfoot.
  • It's near a subway line, so I'll try - what's the time again?
  • Don't know. How about 8:00pm?
  • OK.
  • Wheee! And can somebody please bring a digital camera?
  • I just checked out the map, and it's not ALL the way downtown... it's kind of the east end of the Miracle Mile, right next to the late great Ambassador Hotel, and the Tishman Building where my father worked for ten years while I was growing up, (and where he took me to lunch here, and the studios for KFI (where I set the world record for the longest wait on Hold as a talk show stunt in 1975) were about a block away. Part of me really wants to attend, but only if somebody attending knows how to treat a Level 4 Nostalgia Attack.
  • I'm heading off to Dallas at the crack of dawn tomorrow, and that means I'm gonna miss another one! It's a plot, I tell you, a plot!
  • Part of me wants to attend as well. Karaoke (well, watching other people do it, anyway) sounds kind of fun.
  • Kareoke! Are you all sure that you don't want to drive over the Grapevine, pick me up, and take me back there, then haul me home after it's all done? Yeah, I didn't think so. Make sure you post lots of pics, folks. I'm not sure yet whether it'll make it worse or better that I'm not able to be there, but I want to see them anyway!
  • No pictures????????? What the hell??!!! You can't just tease us like this and then NOT post pictures! For shame! >:<
  • Dude, I will pwn the karaoke. What a great idea. I'll be there and will have a digital camera. Now I just gotta figure out how to get from Long Beach to LA, since I don't know the area for shit.
  • http://www.mta.net/ is the place to go if you're looking for public transit options (unlimited day pass=$3, one fare=$1.25, no transfers) the site is good cause youse can just type in where you're going and where you're coming from....as for pix, my digital camera is one of those old-timey ones from the turn of the century...no, actually..not this one that just passed, the one before...that requires such powerful klieg lights to operate that the subject's (or 'victim''s) hair can actually ignite. using in such a place as a bar, with their many powerful and high proof liquors, would be both dangerous and highly irresponsible of me. I'll do it!
  • I'll bring my slamming 1.3 megapixel camera with the special blur-o-vision. It's not much, but it does work in its own way.
  • Long Beach to Brass Monkey: By car, find the 405 Freeway (Northbound), go to the 110 Freeway (Also Northbound, don't ask), to the 10 Freeway (Westbound), to the Venice off-ramp, go North to Wilshire, turn left, go just past the ruins of the Ambassador Hotel (Is the sign still up there, anybody?) and turn left at Mariposa. Without car, get to Long Beach Blvd. however you can, then get on the Blue Line northbound (stations at 1st, 5th, Anaheim, Pacific Coast Hwy and Willow) all the way to the end; change to the Red Line westbound, get off at Normandie and walk a couple blocks East. You can get there from... uh... there.
  • Nicely done Wendell.
  • ok, now...how do i get from there to the andromeda galaxy...oh, about halfway out from the center on, lets say, the left?
  • and are you coming to this one, wendell? i promise not to let the other monkeys beat you with reeds like they did last time.
  • Thank you, Wendell! It's kind of sad to realize that my camera, at a whopping 2 megapixels, might be the most powerful one there.
  • sexbot, I'm not sure about the andromeda galaxy, but I can give directions from the studio where "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda" was filmed (especially useful for potential Kevin Sorbo stalkers). I'm still unsure of my attendence... anybody going to be blogging from the karaoke?
  • Monkeyfolk, I've been in bed with a cold/bronchitis since yesterday, so I'm afraid I can't make it tonight - I feel truly nasty (and not in that good nasty way). I may try my father's cure for colds (put on thirteen layers of clothes; sit in front of heater; drink fifth of vodka) but that would likely make me too drunk to get up, let alone sashay karaoke-ward.
  • I'm back in LA and will be there tonight. I may need to make like Britney with the Red Bull because this monkey has been up since 5:30 am eastern time. Goofyfoot, I hope you feel better. Next meetup you must come, ok?
  • I feel fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine! Father's recipe perfectly prooves okay good. Subspituted tequila for rekqkisit vodka, as household stocks were lo, but otherwise, all is faboo! Wood floors are fun for sock-skating. (small matter of dogs using head for playing field nowithstanding. notwithsitting. notwithlying. And I double-dog promise to be there next time.
  • wendell...depends on the hotspots....am LIVING for the wifi! (new iBook!)
  • Um, maybe someone should check in on goofyfoot.....just in case.
  • Okay, which excuse should I use? (1) Got a bad haircut, have to wait a few weeks for the MetaFilter logo shaved into the back of my head to grow out, (2) My doctor just changed my anti-depression medication, and I'm not supposed to be exposed to karaoke singers doing sad songs. (3) The Wendellmobile's brakes are acting up again, and even if I drove to the Brass Monkey, I doubt if I could stop within three blocks. (4) I've been getting Post-Traumatic Stress flashbacks of certain incidents that happened at my father's old office, the former KFI studios, the Brown Derby or other disappearing landmarks within a five-block axis of that location. (5) I tried father-of-goofyfoot's home remedy for bronchitis and I am currently blogging from the toilet. (Where dogs are currently using my head for a playing field... and I have no pet dogs!) Anyway, have a good time everybody, and I dare anymonkey to karaoke "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba.
  • Hello babies, We got the_bone, mandyman, space kitty, sexyrobot and yours truly, squidranch posting on what I think is sexyrobot's handle. We are at a bar on mid wilshire called the brass monkey and some cat has just opened the microphone to kareoke. Mr. Bone is taking pix and I am sure that they will be posted somewhere shortly. Goddamn people, you got to get out and come to one of the LA meetup's as we always have fun.
  • Wish I was there!
  • we just ate 60 pot stickers....kill the president.
  • Go, cats, go!
  • *contemplates suede shoes*
  • Hurry up with the pictures, already!!! God, I wish you guys would go someplace where there is a live-feed camera running. It would be so cool to watch you guys in action! Hee! Hee!
  • WHEEEEE! How much can I recommend the Brass Monkey for karaoke? Can I also add, that I've never, in the history of LA been able to convince anyone to go to karaoke with me? God bless the monkeys. And also, I'm posting from squidranch's lap. Hee.
  • This is Bone, posting from Space Kitty's account. I'm also posting from Space Kitty's lap. She is herself sitting in squidranch's lap. We are ordering pizza. sexyrobot and mandyman are threatening to make a full report to our mothers. we are drunk. yay.
  • oh my word...sexyrobot here.....posting from the bone's lap..............hmmm......hmmmmmm....oh yeah....oh yeah.....kill that president....kill him .....hill him now.......killll.....
  • mandyman here. I like to watch.
  • I don't even want to contemplate the hangover that waits for me. Hee. Wish you were here.
  • Aarrggghhhh! I'm seething with rage and envy! You people better have horrible hangovers tomorrow. Plus you better have some pictures and nudity will now be mandatory! Tits and ass, people, tits and ass!
  • Jealous....
  • MonkeyFilter:I don't wanna be exposed to anus! thats from mandyman
  • MonkeyFilter: but she has a heart condition...
  • dude, none of tyhis will make sense tomorrow. (this was the_bone)
  • MonkeyFilter:Tits and ass, people, tits and ass!
  • I survived another meet up. It might be a bit before I can handle another.
  • The meetup was rad, and I really enjoyed meeting the LA moneys (although I'm sorry that I missed wendell and goofyfoot). Squidranch is funny, charming and almost uncannily down-to-earth (and is a wonderful host to boot, having graciously opened up his home so that the drunk monkeys [i.e., everyone] could crash), mandyman is brilliant, sweet and beautiful, sexyrobot is witty and impressively smart and has replaced Jude Law as the man I would be most likely to fall in love with should I ever bat for the other team, and space kitty is effervescent adorable and a fantastic person to talk to. Karaoke was a great idea... the monkeys collectively butchered "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" and "Ebony and Ivory," which was fun, plus I got to show off my vocal stylings on "What A Wonderful World" and "Punk Rock Girl" (the latter song inspired an impromptu monkey slam-dance). The monkey-themed karaoke bar was divine. Pictures will be uploaded to flickr soon... my connection at the hotel keeps dropping me, so it may have to wait until I get back to San Diego tomorrow.
  • 24 photos taken with my camera are now up at the MoFi flickr group. sexyrobot took some shots as well, which will eventually be posted.
  • Yippee! Those were great!! Thanks for keepin' it real, yo! You guys are all so cute and wonderful!
  • What a great group of monkeys we have! Thanks to squid for hosting (perfect venue for karaoke, and major props to you and Bert for the crash pad) Mandyman - great to have you back in town, always so much fun to see you. Sexrobot - a refined pleasure, as always - so sorry about your having to go to work the next day. Muchas gracias to the_bone for the lovely company, fabulous pictures and awesome vocal stylings! After a suitable recovery period, it would be great to meet the monkeys who couldn't make it. Happy 2005 to all!
  • I have been having the shittiest week and these pix made me smile big. Thank you, you wonderful sweet Monkeys.
  • I'm a sweet monkey.
  • That's the real reason I didn't make it; I'm not a sweet monkey, I'm more salty and savory.
  • ummmmmm....maybe you should czech this out.....heheeheeeheee eheheeeehehheheeeehe hheeeeheheeheheeeeeheee.....prepare to rotf and l,l,lol in fact, fuck all you bitches, i'm going fpp with this shit ...dag, yo! kill the president.
  • I want to kill the president. President Grant, that is.
  • Hmmmmmmmmm..........Squidranch looks perturbed, spacekitty astonished, and mandyman bemused. Sexyrobot seems mindful of his hair, and the_bone has obviously been caught at something nefarious. The rest of it provides the elusive clues necessary for Her Majesty's Most Secretive Service, except those last bits, where discretion failed you.
  • Happy belated Anniversary MoFiLA! I can't believe it's already been a year! Reunion tour anyone?
  • Meetup tonight! Email me at the address in my profile for my cell phone number to coordinate.
