Merry Christmas America : A Front Yard View of the Holidays. For over 30 years Patoski, who sees holiday decorating as a "transitive form of folk art" has been documenting holiday displays across the U.S.

Her current show, Winter Wonderlands, wraps up today in Santa Monica. The exhibition's page features a few of her photos. This month's issue of Texas Co-op Power (in .pdf) has a four-page spread of Patoski's work, including photos of a mini ski-run, a tree made out of used chicken potpie tins, and another display made from a discarded drug-store panty hose rack. Sometimes, as the caption beneath the two grain silos pictured on the first site says, subtle displays are the most powerful.

  • *wonders what an intransitive form of art might be*
  • *wonders whether someone meant "transient"*
  • *has no idea, but presumptiously wonders if the artist meant "transitory" or even possibly "transformative"*
  • Best picture of the Caddy is on page 8 of the Co-op magazine. What a fly ride. All of these images are more America than anything on usa101.com.
  • Great link.
  • These are gorgeous, I love them. Eventually I want my yard to look like this.
