Don't click the link below NSFW, shock site. Bad bad images, loud audio, buggers your browser.
  • Oh, fuck. Double post. Should have searched...
  • Hey, I tripled it! I knew I shouldn't have previewed. At least it's nice to know that us monkeys are so good to each other we all wanted to post a warning. :)
  • I previewed. Twice.
  • you sick fucks.tm
  • BTW, what made angry modem so mad? has he/she/it really been a member since march, and this is his/her/its first post/comment???
  • several monkeys suspect haX0rz have gotten his account (or made one), SideDish.
  • perhaps we should ask his sister, Pleasant and Fun to Be With Modem
  • Actually, angry modem is only his superhero name. In everyday life, he is a mild-mannered janitor known as ambivalent modem.
  • His Metafilter user page has also been hacked, and it's been reported.
  • flash, i think his cousin is Care Enough to Send the Very Best Modem.
  • He's in IRC laughing at all the comments. Unless it's someone else in IRC too, but I don't think so. So yeah. Not feeding the trolls and checking urls before you click would be good.
  • kimberly, i'm a techno-doofus. do you know, is it harder to, say, hack into an IRC? or might that be a hacker in there too? just curious. it seems awfully weird that angry modem would be hanging around since february then suddenly weird out like this.
  • Now I'm curious as hell as to what that was. Oh well.
  • Last Measure, pyrrthon (SFW wikipedia article).
  • Sidedish, you can go on IRC and take any name that is not currently being used on IRC. It's not hacking, it's just the way the system is setup.
  • and this is his/her/its first post/comment??? Also commented here. Either a hack/identity hijack, or he suddenly got in touch with his inner douchebag.
  • sadly it looks like the ladder. (okay okay latter) Hey - jokes on him - we got his $5! right?
  • hmmmm - ah well. Looks like I'll retract my earlier defense, pending more info.
  • So, petebest, does this change the troll rankings?
  • I'm afraid it does, shawnj - Shares of Mayor Curley fell in early trading, while news of the Corey Feldman troll boosted angry modem by 140%. Analysts speculate that Nostrildamus will need to increase output by 27% to maintain the home field advantage in the All-Star Troll scheduled for later in the season. MonkeyFilter closed up 15 bananas, while investment analysts caution that getting way drunk tonight may increase the chances of waking up with someone really stinky. shawnj?
  • I prefer "wanker" to "troll."
  • petebest, I <3 you!
  • MCT: crack me up must remember to use this compliment to someone I deeply don't care for
  • I wonder what mathowie would think of it. Considering the crudity of his behavior, if he were banned from Mefi as well, (for modifying his userpage to redirect to another common "Shock Site") that would be an interesting karmic result.
  • Damn you people. We need more trolls, at least we do if it means we see more awesome comments like mct's and petebest's.
  • Well, I for one think it is angry modem's rage at the loss of his perceived status as a memeber of the once highly exclusive, but now open to the public Metafilter (whose signal to noise ratio has taken quite a hit, IMHO). But then again, my trousers could potentially burst into flame should information to contrary of my totally unfounded speculation arise.
  • Nah, probably just trouble with, you know, the ladies. Or they haven't dropped yet. This is the same thing as slashing somebody's tires or TP'ing their house -- when you have the cognitive power of your average electric razor, you think stuff like this is funny. There's also an element of elitism, evidenced by his comment on MeTa that he'd never do it to a "good" site. Thank God for alert, diligent netizens like him, or else how would we know we're so stupid? But it's a was now anyway. Best left behind. Right now his mom's probably telling him to brush his teeth and get ready for bed, prompting him to stuff his dog-eared and overworked copy of the JCPenney catalog (bookmarked at the lingerie section) under his bed.
  • MCT: You are so right on. Preach!
  • Yeah, it's interesting because I was just about to sign up for a MeFi membership, but backed down after reading the MeTa thread on this. I forgot how much better it is here. I'm amazed at how civily this was handled.
  • I too backed out of the $5 buy in at the blue. It turns out that several sacred cows aren't, in retrospect, worth it. Fotolog.net was once a strong contender, but in the end I went with the more expensive, but superior, flickr. Meta costs more and is, at the end of the day, isolationist (which is a delicious irony, btw). Mofi is free and welcomes all, except apparently bitter-superiority-complex idiots from Mefi. Plus, there's plenty of useful advice, like how to find socks. And the angry anti-Bush ad to cute animal picture ratio is still very low.
  • Mofi is free and welcomes all, except apparently bitter-superiority-complex idiots from Mefi. Exactly.
  • Does this mean that Matt now owes me $5.oo ?
  • I am not a troll. Admittedly, my first foray into posting years ago was on the AICN forums (when they had them) from which I was banned. Admittedly, also, I was banned from Fark for calling Drew Cuntis a "fat fucking sell out" but ... oh fuck ya
  • Fotolog.net was once a strong contender, but in the end I went with the more expensive, but superior, flickr. Is our flickr group costing some one money?
  • i like that we are considered 'lesser' than MeFi. I hope always to be considered 'lesser' than that bunch of trash-talking, self-congratulating, arrogant arseholes. Yay. Not clever, MeFi, not funny. Leave us alone.
  • Is our flickr group costing some one money? Nope still free. Hazard to guess, maybe they purchased a pro account at flickr?
  • I hope always to be considered 'lesser' than that bunch of trash-talking, self-congratulating, arrogant arseholes prismatic7, hey you're an idiot.
  • Regarding the fact that the referenced comment displayed the exact kind of attitude we don't want at MoFi, and even more immediately, was retarded. Come on man, hypocrisy is not that difficult of a concept to embrace. No harm intended prismatic7, by the way.
  • Try looking at the situation more objectively, without using the names of any parties. Person X shows up at website A picking a fight. X pisses all over the front page, then goes back to website B where high-fives are exchanged. The majority at site B band together, defending the instigator. A few protest it but they're shouted down. The stance at website B is that any of them can go piss on anybody's site, and they'll defend that shithead since he's one of their own. This same thing happened a week ago, except it was one of us who was person X, instigating a fight with another website. He did it from here, without shitting all over their front page. It was a much smaller transgression, yet instead of yucking it up with him, we jumped on his case (which was the right thing to do). Now, they reacted extremely poorly, and we all know we're better than that. Now that we're site A, getting shit thrown at us by person X, we are capable of handling the situation much more maturely . But come on! Quit conjuring up excuses for this shit. Monkeys have a good fucking reason to be upset. It has NOTHING to do with "big-brother jealousy" or a "superiority complex" that some have tried to spin it as. It's the fear of sounding "jealous" that's keeping many from saying the obvious. If this kind of shit came from any other source, the reaction would be totally different. A mefite showed up here flinging shit on us, went back and laughed it up with the rest of mefi. There's a lot of monkeys that need to look past the boner they've carried for mefi for so long, and look at what she's turned into. Mefi might've been a pretty hot babe back in the day, but now she's a bitter and frigid old bitch that's had her legs closed for so long that she's totally forgotten how to interact with others. It's not "jealousy" to notice this, just brutal fucking honesty.
  • Or perhaps members of $WEBSITE could try to see members of $OTHERWEBSITE as individuals, rather than lumping everybody together in huge, pulsating clumps of snarkitude? Just a general suggestion, given the vast number of "Monkeys are pathetic" or "MeFites are cunts" or "seriously, Charles, people like this are insane and dangerous - I think you should buy yourself a gun" comments that have been floating around of late...
  • .
  • The whole thing makes me feel a little ill. Who is jealous of who? Mefites of Mofites is the feeling I get. Not so sure my 5 bucks was so well spent after all.
  • ian would say - no offence, but yours is the attitude we don't want ("hey, MeFites can shit on us, they're from MeFi. Them shitting on us makes us cool"). ref Mr. Knickerbocker, who's got a damn good point.
  • Hazard to guess, maybe they purchased a pro account at flickr? posted by beeza at 10:36AM UTC on November 20
Was debating which site to get a pro account at to get more uploads. Fotolog was the market leader and cheaper. flickr was more expensive. I ended up getting a 2 year bundle because the service and feature set of flickr is so superior. [/derail]
  • I speak only for myself, of course, but since finding MoFi I've all but abandoned MeFi (I'd been lurking since probably 2000 over there -- well before 9/11 in any case), and really don't give much of a hoot one way or the other about what's going on over there now, or who's saying what, or whatever. As in, I wasn't even tempted to join MeFi when the $5 offer began. My advice, for whatever it's worth: Ignore 'em. If any of 'em come over here and are nice or interesting, great. Otherwise, fuck 'em. This place has its own energy and its own life and comparing it to MeFi is absolutely, utterly unnecessary. In other words, it's Monkey Time, beeyatch.
  • prismatic, dude, "MeFites" did not shit on us. One guy did. It'd be really nice if that distinction was made and appreciated a bit more, I think.
  • /me applauds flashyboy and logical arguments
  • Seriously, I think it's high time we just drop this. It's time for us to show our charm and grace. Yes, that child came and, yes, he did piss on the rug, and yes, that rug totally tied the room together, but he's gone now and we have a new rug. We should just stand on the front porch, smile, and wave goodbye, even as we say under our breaths "Thank GAWD that brat's not my child!"
  • Well, to be honest, I thought this was all quite entertaining. But, then again, I didn't join the party until it was almost over.
  • Speaking of new rugs, I have a surprise coming soon.
  • /me points out the several recent MeTa threads where considerable time and effort is put into shitting on MoFi. back up, boys. I'm not talking out my arse here. now, i'm putting this to bed. irreconcilable differences and all that. right, wrong, who gives a flying wotsit? *peels banana, pulls palm leaf over head*
  • Ok, the Corey Feldman thing seems to be going into "end of thread" fun. Can't we do the same here? Why are some (one?) of us so concerned that they're "shitting" on us? OK, here's a classic that appeared on Mefi and then here, way back when. Just to give you all something else to focus on: I give you Tragic Mannequins, my all time favorite. If you can find the original MoFi post, I came up with a pretty nice ghost story thingie, just to scare the kids.
  • tracicle; wall-to-wall shag carpeting?
  • Heheh, you said shag.
  • . . . and "carpet." [couldn't resist.]
  • [this is wonderful] I would decorate my room with this if I could part with the hope of ever getting laid again. The titles are a little too on the nose.
  • as i said in the other thread, what bothers me most is some monkeys had to take time to quit and reboot several times to extricate themselves from the mess that angry created. that's mean, and it's beyond verbally mean on the site.
  • I love how Spock is included among tragic beauties :) So who's following the Vulcan storyline on Enterprise with glee? They had a sehlat! /total geek out
  • Damn, I don't think Enterprise has even made it here yet.
  • When it does, it will be cool. It started slowly, and I haven't seen seasons 1-4 (Buffy was more important, naturally), but season 4, at least the Vulcan bits, is greatly pleasing my 15 year old wanna-be pointed ear self.
  • But the themesong, jb; the themesong. The soft-rock death. The horror. The horror. Also, the lame plots and second-hand characters. *haven't got to series 4 yet*
  • I really like Enterprise I (reluctantly) grew up on Next Generation and this is the best thing they've done since. I only really watched the story arch with the time-traveling aliens who help the Nazis conquer America. Scott Backula is pretty bad ass, after interogating one of the alien officers he shoots him just for spite as they run away. It's the polar opposite of the PC drek of Voyager.
  • I really like the themesong - and the imagery to go with it gives me shivers. I thought - here it is, time to break with the smooth, too-perfect Federation future (which was great for the Original series, and next gen, but getting old by Voyager - DS9 broke a way a little), and to have something new - new in design, new in characters, rougher, a little darker and more ambivalent, as suits the time it is about, and the time it is made. What bothered me most about the first season is that it wasn't that way - it didn't live up to the promise of the opening sequence. But now I'm just grooving on the coolness of exploring Vulcan's past, the suggestion there might be civil. And Scott Bakula rocks - he's not been given as much to work with as in Quantum Leap (vying with Farscape for best sci-fi show EVAR, though original Twilight Zone and new Outer Limits are also contenders), but he's still brilliant. This next week will be good for him.
  • I once saw Scott Bakula in the parking lot of a local grocery store and he was just beautiful in person, and I say that as someone who never thought he was more than marginally hot.
