• When you hold your mouse over the link to go to comments for a particular thread you can see the url has a number at the end. As you move down the list of posts a number will be skipped. Manually type that one in to see the post. This is also good for reading some funny deleted thread reasons over at Metafilter if you're looking for something more worthwhile to read that the aforementioned post.

• As far as I know, Jerry has no history of stupidity, and has posted some greatly entertaining and informative links. Linking to LGF was a dumb move, and he went a little postal within the ensuing thread, as well. I suspect that the subject matter got to him, and he took his anger out on everybody. So I say let him be. I'm sure he realizes his mistake, and if he comes back from this rested and rehabilitated, we can move on and never speak of it again.
• I dunno, rocket. Sure, everyone gets a little miffy sometimes. But in this case, we're not talking run of the mill miff here, he went far enough across the line that tracicle personally got dragged into it. Calls in the night and epithets on her blog? Jerry knows LGF, what they're about, and was deliberately provocatory - not to us, or to someone here he may have been discussing the subject with, but to them. He basically threatened to kill LGF'ers, which we know is total bullshit BUT is deliberately, pointedly provocatory. He basically challenged them to answer it. Which they did, only to *tracicle*. That indicates not only contempt for the collegiality that we prize here, but a level of contempt for tracicle (and through her, the rest of us, as members of this site) personally, in that he was willing to childishly threaten the LGF'ers as a representative of this site (he could have, after all, put up his threat on his own blog, should he have one), and damn the consequences. That level of contempt - not for LGF, contempt for whom is his business, but for us demands, in my opinion, banishment. And honestly, if he is willing (as he demonstrably is) to risk tracicle's reputation, site and homelife to air his death threats once, I can't see that he'd hesitate to do it, or something like it, again.
• I have to say I was surprised by that thread. I'd never seen him go off like that before. Not that I know the guy personally, of course, but his posting history before that thread was pretty damn good, lots of interesting stuff. Nothing at all like what came out there. It may be all for nothing -- either he's lurking or decided to unplug after his comment. Of course, it's all entirely at Monkeybashi's discretion, as she's the only injured party here.
• I've always liked Jerry's posts and comments, and it did seem wildly out of character. I know there's absolutely no obligation to go back over it all, from any party, but it'd be nice to know if he's apologised in any way, to anybody involved. It may be that he just didn't realise how unpleasant some LGFers can get when riled. Essentially, as long as tracicle's okay and not still being harrassed, I think we should all move quietly on in joy and giggles - but it'd be nice to know that Jerry's doffed his cap, hung his head, made restitution, whatever...
• I agree with Fes. Personally, I'd be more inclined to a severe timeout than actual banning, but I'm a soft touch. And prior behavior doesn't seem to count for much around here. *spills a 40 for someone now known only as Anonymous*
• languagehat, that's not quite fair. Anonymous took off by himself. Tracicle never told him to go. I'd say that prior behaviour counts for very much here; we usually give older members much more leeway than new entrants.
• I have know way of knowing if Jerry knew enough to have expected this kind of fallout, and just didn't care. If that were so, then I'd call for his bannination. I suspect he knew *of* LGF, but didn't think they would get this far out of hand, or at least thought it would be directed at him, and not tracicle. Jerry...if you're lurking, it's time to come clean and face the music. Not everyone is out for your head, but you owe us an explanation.
• Personal feelings for Jerry and his posts/comments aside, I don't see any other recourse except for permanent banishment. Whether he was serious or not is beside the point. He made a death threat. And that crossed a line that should never be crossed in this--or any--community.
• I'd agree with languagehat that a timeout would be appropriate. And an apology would be nice, too (though it shouldn't be required, since apologies made under duress are pretty meaningless). Also, from a pragmatic point of view, banishment would be pretty pointless, since he could just sign up again with a different user name if he wanted to...
• Jerry seems to have embarked on a self-imposed timeout. I haven't heard anything from him. I have a strong feeling that he will be getting a great deal of flak right now.

• I hope he returns - after getting things in order. He didn't just freak out here - it seems that he also was on a site called fazed at the same time, bitching about LGF. I mean, they drive me nuts too, but I'm not going to rant about them and make death threats on someone else's website. I'm not going to do that at all, actually, and I'm rather concerned that he went off that badly in at least two places. He probably needs an Internet timeout in general, I think. Still, hope he's alright - I totally disapprove of LGFers calling and harassing people, and I hope he's not getting too much shit.
• I had noticed that his postings had been taking a slightly negative turn. I think personal stuff was probably winding him up. The fact that his personal data was posted at LGF makes me feel a bit sorry for him.
