  • C'ici n'est pas un commentaire.
  • Are we still doin' secret sanata?
  • I don't know if I will have time to join in for the holidays, but for the technilogically inept, does anyone have any suggestions on where to begin with creating audio CDs from MP3s? A freeware program would be best for me, if such a thing exists.
  • jb... Try to find a boot copy of Nero... I find that iTunes works surprisingly well....and is completely free..
  • thanks - I can't get a copy of Nero, and the software that came with my burner doesn't seem to do it, but I will check out iTunes. sorry - one more question - what is the file format for audio CDs? (So I know I am making the correct conversion).
  • wav
  • Is there a cut off date for sign ups? My group (group 2) just closed, and I see there's one lonely soul (jb) in group 3. Please don't let jb suffer a mix-less holiday season... So - if no one else signs up, should one (or all) of the established groups just divide and absorb the extras?
  • I'd say if no one else joins, jb will join one of the existing groups, whichever is happy to make extra copies. I'm certainly happy to do that. I'm just excited because I have 11 tracks ready to go, just waiting on a couple more.
  • Now I'm under such pressure to find more tracks. Holiday is hard - I have a few very beautiful (and a couple silly), but need to find more.
  • seems like a cut off date should be established, so that we can get about making things, and getting them out into the world. group 2 has set nov 29 as the date for sending out the CDs, so I'm guessing nov 22 might be a good cut off? gives a week for prep. might also encourage folks to sign up now rather than later! don't let the holiday season sneak up on you with nothing more than the carol of the bells!
  • what's wrong with the Carol of the Bells? It's my favorite....
  • nothing wrong with it, just that if that was all you had to listen to for the entire holiday season, you might go a little stir crazy. for reference I cite this.
  • Group 1 also set the 29th...
  • Sorry, I've got another technical question. So lets say I've figured out that the Roxio Easy CD creator that came with my computer writes audio CDs (not all monkeys are bright :). And that I've got a nicely eclectic set of songs picked out. However, they are too eclectic - the classical* tracks are very quiet, but the others are not, and listener might suffer hearing damage if the volume is not evened out somewhat. Is this possible? (Preferably taking the volume of some tracks down, so that the classical don't loose any dynamics.) Trimming some tracks would also be good, if it is possible. All tracks are currently Mp3s. My assets are Roxio Easy CD creator, iTunes, and a copy of Iomega Hotburn Pro that came with my other burner. My non-assets is my complete ignorance of how to work with things of an audio nature that don't have the initials M,P and the numeral 3. *Does anyone have a better word for this genre? It feels so weird calling baroque or modernist pieces classical, but "Western Art Music" is ungainly and excludes art music from elsewhere in the world. Maybe "art music" - music made to enjoy as art.
  • Actually - just burned the first test CD, and it isn't too bad. Would be nice to even it out, but not necessary.
  • I don't know anything about Roxio, but the function you're talking about is called normalising. Have a look and see if it does it. Otherwise, ye olde iTunes does it too.
  • Thanks, that really did help. Then I'm set, my first mix CD. (Though I once meticulously planned a mix tape for a friend, which I never actually made, and now I don't have anything to even play tapes.) I think the theme may have helped, since I was searching and discovering new things (very rewarding) rather than trying to pick from my too many favorites. But now I have to see if I have anyone to inflict it on send it to. Is it all right if the tracks on the audio CD don't appear to have any titles? Though the title and performer of each song was in the file name, neither program seemed to have labelled the cda file (correct format?) - they remained track 1, track 2, etc.
  • As long as I get a track listing, I'm happy.
  • bringing this thread back to the sidebar... we now have three people in group three - so here's your chance to get in on the cd swap. If you like classical music and electric guitar, I promise you will like this. Also trumpets. maybe some bells. And social realism in the Dutch Rennaisance.
  • just signed up, so now you have 4.
  • Hmmmm, group three is slow to fill up and there's an AskMe thread requesting holiday music. What do you guys think? Should we invite them to our party?
  • Definately. Doing so now.
  • This comes in handy. It's a site for cd case origami with a template and everything. Group 2, I sent out our addresses. FYI and all.
  • There are updates re dates in the Group 3 forum.
