A-carving we shall go...

So many pumpkins, so little time.

  • Hey, can we make this the official MoFi pumpkin thread? Here is a link to that end: ExtremePumpkins.com - Extreme Pumpkin Carving
  • When I first looked at the pumpkins, I thought Sirius Black was Charles Manson and Jack Torrance was Michael Jackson. I guess these things are sort of a Rorshach test. You see whom ever scares you the most.
  • Punkins are so de classay. since I started combining Welbutrin and Speed, I've been able to churn out several of these watermelon dittys a day.
  • PatB-show off! Too good for an old fashioned radish rose, are ya? This blows my mind. Just gorgeous- thanks for the link. I still want a Shaun of the Dead punkin...
  • PatB what lovely melons you have.
This is from last Halloween, but still: One Pumpkin To Rule Them All.
  • I gotta say that I absolutely loathe the trend of smily, jolly pumpkins. We carve 'em as scary and mean as possible at our place.
  • Truly one of my favorite things to do in October. Last year we had a pumpkin carving party with about 14 people who had never carved pumpkins before. What fun.
  • The pukin' pumpkin always makes me laugh. (Some of the other Rotten.com pumpkins are definitely NSFW.) I think I might carve one this year for the first time in ages. I have some strong childhood memories of pumpkin carving and Halloween shenanigans.
  • When I saw this, I first thought it was a follow-up to this thread.
  • spider not quite big enough to appreciate.
  • Ok, another watermelon carving,a beautiful derail next
  • I am lazy and not so good with sharp tools. I usually draw faces on the pumpkins with a black marker. There's no illuminated-from-within effect, but it takes about 5 minutes. Maybe this year I'll do a pumpkin pi one, inspired by this carving. By the way, those intricately carved watermelons remind me of jade jewelry and look like superior substitutes for the ice sculptures I've seen at weddings and other gala events.
  • hee hee PY... pumpkin pi... snorrrrtttt
Pumpkin art from some game designer pals of mine.
  • I use a motorized jigsaw for carving, fast and fun!
  • More awesome pumpkins. Check out the photos from 2003, especially Death at the Chessboard. Awesome.
  • Kae-Sa-Luk, they call it. The Thai art of fruit carving. (Some pumpkin carvings, too.) I was gonna make an FPP about it one day, but never got around to it. I look at what people can do with a piece of fruit and a knife and I am just in awe.
  • PatB, those are knock-out links!
  • Thankee kindly, Beeswacky. I'm not going to carve a punkin this year, I'm too depressed after seeing all the amazing talent.
