Curious George Calling all football fans among the monkeys: Did this call really happen?
My parents were telling me about an amusing call made in either 85 or 84 during a Patriots game, they can't remember who against. They claim that the opposing team was given a 15 yard penalty for some rough play, and the ref actually stood on the field and said, "Givin 'em the business, 15 yard penalty". Should I belive them?
Yeah...I remember that. It was New York jets at Buffalo Bills in 1986. The ref made a rough play call and described it as "givin' him the business" as he made the face mask sign with one hand and an upper-cut punching motion with the other.
The TV commentators had a field day with it. It was hilarious.
Thanks rocket88. Anyone know if I could find a clip of it somewhere?
I have seen the clip, too.
Hey, you know the one I liked was the one where Theisman.....
I remember exactly where I was when that happened. Right in front of the goddamn television watching the goddamn game. Yeah, it stayed with me for a looooooooonnnnnnngggggg time.
