Forget the Citation Index.
You can now simply cast your vote for the best scientist.
The list of nominees includes Doctor Strangelove, Mr Spock and Doctor Frankenstein.
-
I voted for Spock---but I also think that Sherlock Holmes should be a finalist.
-
I had to vote Dr. Frankenstein - for pretty much the reasons his defender stated.
-
Went with Dr. Strangelove, as that is one of the greatest movies ever made. Mein Führer! I can Valk!
-
Spock.
-
Frankenstein (though I hovered for a moment over Beaker & Honeydew. They're so cute!) also, this poll is yet another example of the British obsession with league tables -- they want to and will rank everything, and extend the drama of the voting to make as much hay as possible. Now it's Cult TV/movie scientists; last week it was movie soundtracks (Rushmore or Dirty Dancing - I couldn't decide), sitcoms, Carry On films (um...they all come in 5th?), books, Britons who lived in the 18th century named Rupert who Didn't live in Manchester....
-
The Doctor, mainly because he could build the coolest stuff out of whatever cheap props he could find in the BBC storage rooms.
-
But Carry on up the Khyber is clearly supreme!
-
I can't believe you left Beaker & Honeydew off the FPP - they are clearly the world's best scientists! Just listen to this quote: "Meep meep meepmeep...meep meep meep.....meep meep ... meepmeepmeepmeepmeepmeepmeepmeep!" /hands flailing in the air
-
I can't believe you left Beaker & Honeydew off the FPP - they are clearly the world's best scientists! I linked to the Kermit introduction in my first version of the post, but then I started editing. Blame the preview button!
-
I was being silly - but now that you mention it, the Kermit introduction is the best of the ones they have up so far. All the others are real people, and too serious. Based on the arguments, I would still vote muppet.
-
(I mean all the other advocates, not the scientists. Except for Spock, of course. He's real, just in the future.)
-
And in other important science news...
-
having gone back to read Kermit's pitch, I now regret not going with Beaker & Honeydew. Cool decals, people! And now that Kermit mentions it, Honeydew does look a little like Becks...
-
Why can't I vote for Hubert Farnsworth?

The results are in.
