Mysterious animal appears in North Carolina.
If you're from those parts, can you explain what it is?
-
Why, it's obviously Timon.
-
It looks more like a hyena to me, if we're narrowing it down to "animals which have appeared in the Disney picture 'The Lion King.'"
-
It's got really big ears. But I think the jaws are little too small for a hyena's.
-
Canus photoshoppus?
-
It's a monkey.
-
That's just a regular pigdog, nothing exotic about it.
-
well, i said it before and i'll say it again: maned wolf, aka stilt-legged fox. that's my vote. how it got to the carolinas from south america, well, who knows.
-
I'm with the scoffers. I think one of its parents might have been one of these, the other, who knows. Erm, and I think it's pregnant.
-
It's quite clearly the end of the motherfucking world.
-
I'm yet to be convinced that this is a faked image.
-
But, caution, what about the tail in the posted picture? It seems considerably longer and more slender than your examples, otherwise, a definite match.
-
It has stolen my soul. Now I am adrift. /despair
-
Vote now! Is it: a) A Varmint? b) A Critter? c) A Thang? d) None of the above?
-
e) Freaky wolf-thing for president!
-
it's a slender-tailed foxdeerdogthingie.
-
it looks like it wants to be friends, if that damn bright light would only go away. It might just be what Murray Leinster called a "Meercat"
-
It's a wombat. Not to be confused with a wopat.

Frogs: The body shape is pretty dang close--especially if you consider it might be a young animal. But doesn't it appear that the color is a bit off for a maned wolf? All the pics that you linked to show black points on the legs--fairly distinctive markings, and the tail of the MW has white on it, not black. Granted, the head and neck are canted away from the camera, but there doesn't seem to be a distinct mane. Unless the mane doesn't come in till a certain age--do you know? Man, I hope the news follows up on this (and they catch it unharmed) I'm really curious. The voting here is with Frogs, since I can't think of ANY other animal (except maybe Photoshoppus,) that would look like this. Even running through hybrids, I can't think of a combination that would produce this critter. I hope they find a whole huge breeding population of the critters where nobody expected them. And that they turn out to be from space, are highly intelligent, have a great sense of humor,* and can make music using common ordinary kitchen potholders. *they must have a GSofH--look at him laughin' at the photographer dude

The gray fox explanation is simpler than the maned wolf one. If this were a mutant gray fox or a gray fox with bizarre "short brown fur", it would account for the lighter underthroat and belly areas, and the lack of black stockings on the photo of the critter. The gray fox is native to the area.

Of curse it didn't link. Try this.
