Tales of Old China
is an ambitious site which focuses on the period 1840-1950. There's a library, images, and photos.
Those interested in ephemera may enjoy the postcards or the maps. There are also sections on various cities, as well as excerpts (from works not in the library) concerning China, among other unexpected delights of an attractivce site which is still a work in progress.
