Ladies and gentlemen, the new New Coke, Coca-Cola C2.
  • so?
  • one "underwhelmed" vote from ddc.
  • Let me be the first to say: PepsiBlue!!!
  • or just as silly, PepsiClear!
  • Pepsi whonow? I'm out ladies and gentlemonkeys. See you in a few weeks.
  • Byebye Forks. PS thanks lots and lots for the email: it was informative and encouraging. Now I just need to overcome the obligatory technical propblems and unsupportive support.
  • PepsiBl... HEY! having said that, I cannot stop drinking Diet Coke with Lemon.
  • Seeya, forks.
  • NO FORKS, DON'T GO! COME BACK! COME BACK, FORKS!
  • Clearly I'm the only person to remember Pepsi Max, being that according to my grocery store manager, we were the only family to buy it. It went off the market two/three/four years ago? I think it was 1/3 regular mixed with 2/3 Diet Pepsi. I also think my wife and I are the only people in the world routinely drinking Vanilla Coke.
  • You'll never go back to Diet Coke with Lemon after you try Diet Coke with Lime. That said, does the Department of Homeland Security get royalties for "Mountain Dew Code Red"? Last year, I started to put together a page relating the strange colors of various new sodas with the Homeland Security Alert colors, but it contributed significently to my nervous breakdown.
  • I love Vanilla Coke. And I'm pretty sure that Pepsi Max is still on sale here in the UK.
  • C2? Bah. Wake me when they get to C4, 'now with that Plastique flavor!" Meh. I still prefer my ChocoCola: 1 can of Coke, two dark-cocolate portions, add some vodka, blend, serve in tall glass . Yummy. More diet beverages? More aspartame? Just what the heck is going on here?
  • Diet Vanilla Pepsi is waay better than Diet Vanilla Coke. In case anyone was wondering. Which is not to say that I oppose this post, I find it interesting that major brands are jumping on the low carb bandwagin, although 15 grams of sugar probably doesn't qualify for low carb.
  • Yeah, you can still get Pepsi Max in Britain (unless its just my local corner shop, selling off a three year old supply of the stuff). Pepsi Max was sugar free, but triple caffeine, or something. It was pretty vile, basically pro plus in liquid form.
  • Over here in Oz, we still get Pepsi Max (from memory, it's 1 calorie)... we don't get Vanilla diet Pepsi, but do get VDCoke (which is my poison of choice). I seem physically incapable of drinking full-strength coke anymore, which is odd. But the diet coke just tastes.... cleaner. More refreshing. Or something ;)
  • I was really hoping that CC-C2 was the next release of this
  • is Pepsi Max what Pepsi One became?
  • low carb bandwagon Are you guys seeing low-carb bread yet? I mean, what the hell, atkins?
  • Soda is so disgusting. I enjoy a good root beer occationally, but Pepsi is the only thing I can think of that is grosser than Coke.
  • If I thought they would have reduced the sugar without increasing the artifical sweeters, I might have considered trying the new Coke. I can't think of a current soft drink that doesn't overdo the sugar, thanks to Pepsi, and I haven't found an artificial sweetner yet which doens't leave a gross aftertaste. Back in the day, Coke was a lot more yummy, gingery syrup and a lot less cloying sugar. Classic Coke isn't as classic as THEY want you think. On the other hand, it's probably better for my health that I no longer drink sodas. Question: did anyone grow up regularly drinking sodas with meals and otherwise, in lieu of other options? No milk with meals? No glass of tap water when you were thirsty? The trend toward sugar drinks dating from the 70s has always made me worry about the health of ensuing generations.
  • I grew up in the 80s, and my parents were fairly strict with the amount of softdrink my sister and I consumed. Not to the extent of being a Coke Nazi, but it was a semi-regular treat for us I guess. With dinner, juice was generally pretty much the staple, and the reply "drink some water!" to my complaints of thirst ring in my ears to this day. As I went through my teens, I drank much more softdrink, but again it wasn't regularly bought into the house. I definitely drank a LOT more milk than softdrink - in fact, I'd average a litre of (chocolate) milk a day. Funnily enough, by the time I was 20 I was clocking the scales at 108kg..... Since then, though, I've dropped 20kg and kept them off. Mainly with a combination of silly amounts of exercise, and a slight change in my eating habits (basically, making my meals protein-heavy rather than carb-heavy). But, in the end, my weight-loss has been caused by the exercise rather than the diet. And I now drink a LOT of water, almost never sugary softdrink, sometimes juice, and the very rare milk drink. Don't even have milk in my tea anymore.
  • low-carb bread = little to no refined flour or sugar so the fiber is able to cancel out the insulin reaction and the net carbs is low.
  • I can confirm that Pepsi Max in Britain thing. I can also claim to be a devotee, bordering on addiction, of Vanilla Diet Coke. (I think, and this is a guess, that it may have something to do with my parents' trendy parenting techniques. They were informed by various plausible-sounding individuals that if they denied me any sweet material for the first years of my life, I would never develop a sweet tooth - that the lust for sweets was a culturally-imposed, capitalist-driven phenomenon, and that feeding me only healthy, natural products in my infancy would ensure I never grew up with this foul addiction of the modern world. Which was a nice idea; tragically bullshit. When, at about age six, I was finally allowed to taste something sweet - a Smartie, I believe - my kiddy brain did a metaphorical back-flip and started screaming the subconscious equivalent of "So this is what you've been hiding from me, you bastards! How fucking dare you? How could you have blindfolded my eyes to such a glittering palace of sugary delights? What could possibly be so evil about something so delicious? Right. That's it. From now on, I demand more; I demand it all. Every sweet thing on this earth, from the feather-light to the nauseatingly heavy, from the minutest fancy to the grandest Toblerone-shaped temple of the chocolate Gods; all these things must be brought to me. I shall NEVER be sated! In the short term, give me some more fucking smarties, quickly." This was at the beginning of a long, hot, balmy summer; the rest of it was spent in absolute bliss, drinking nothing but vanilla-ice-cream-and-coke floats. As such, I suspect that Vanilla Diet Coke reminds me of the only time in my life when I was truly happy. Would you deny me that one glimpse of paradise? Must you rip me so brutally from my amniotic nostalgia into the stinking, festering greyness of the real world? Oh, let me to my sun-drenched sense-memories!; give me my Vanilla Diet Coke... and give me some hope that this world has a purpose beyond dull pain and frustrated dreams. Please. But no lemon.) Man, this is a nice little thread. Look what all those MeFi idiots have been missing all these years by dissing Pepsi Blue threads! /pretend anti-MeFi snarking
  • C-2: I'm in. Gotta taste better than Diet Coke.
  • Wait. It's got half the sugars, carbos and calories of regular cokes. So we're paying the full price for a watered down Coke?
  • David, NOTHING tastes better than Diet Coke. Bite your tongue.
  • Alright, can anybody explain (what three doctors haven't been able to) why drinking diet drinks with NutraSweet triggers my bronchial athsma? There's been lots of talk about the product's 'side effects', but this is one that seemingly hasn't effected anyone but me...
  • Sounds like it, Alnedra. And we can already do that buy buying postmix coke! Which I prefer to refer to as methadone, for reasons which should be obvious....
  • I didn't have it quite as bad as flashboy, I got sugar and candy, but soda was off limits. Rots your teeth don'cha ya know. Mountain Dew, all three glorious flavours, is still my only soda addiction.
  • You haven't LIVED until you've experienced the head-turning rush of Polar Double Fudge Diet Soda. Made in my new little hometown of Worcester, Mass., if you close your eyes and do just a shot or two you'll swear you've been chugging Duncan-Hines cake batter, albeit runnier. I've tried the other chocolate sodas-- the Shastas, the Japanese products in their nifty slim-line cans, but Dang that is tasty. (can I have my check now?)
  • Wot about a slug of bottled water?
  • I used to be a Coke addict (hush over there): drank a 1.5 litre bottle a day until I got pregnant. Took me about four weeks to get over the caffeine and sugar withdrawal -- thank whoever for chai -- and now that I can/choose to drink it again, I can't stand soda in any form. Mind you, I'm back to six cups of coffee (minimum) per day.
  • What path said, pretty much. (I grew up on massive amounts of Coca-Cola. Today I drink water, or beer.) Coke out-of-the-can is much too sweet for my taste -- I have to cut it with a lot of ice, then let the ice melt, before it becomes potable. Maybe this C2 is an attempt to reclaim some market share from the less-sweet bottled teas. /but then, I'm really nobody's target market
  • Aww... goetter, doncha know? Everybody's somebody's target market. If I absolutely have to buy a can of something, it's usually green or wulong tea, preferably unsweetened. I'm a sucker for Pokka's line of tea.
  • So we're paying the full price for a watered down Coke? Is anyone else seeing the little 'single-serv' cans of coke? 8oz to a can, and the cost is comparable to a regular can?
  • I like how we're now supposed to believe that they've lowered the sugar content but the taste is the same. Um, if that's true, why didn't they do that a long time ago?
  • Certainsome1, because Atkins is the trend now. No need to do it before. Like McDonald's selling salads. They could have been doing that all along.
  • I don't do a lot of soda-pop either--but ever since I got pregnant with my first child I have had an almost never-ending craving for rootbeer. Don't know why, but I can go through a six pack within hours. Also, I never expected this thread to go on so long.
  • the original new coke maybe wasn't such a marketing disaster after all - it was a bad idea, to be sure, and it tanked - but the company took the "no old coke" interlude to finally drop all pretense of making it with sugar, going to corn syrup instead. wish they'd go back - sugar doesn't get converted to fat as easily as corn syrup, and it doesn't leave your mouth feeling so slimy after drinking it. and the atkins diet can pretty much go away and die for all i care. i am so sick of this low-carb crap. it's bunk, it's the oat bran of the 00's (remember oat bran in freakin' everything back in the 80's? damn oat bran). it makes people gassy and gives them halitosis. it's another attempt for lazy asses to lose their fat without having to exercise. it's just the newest stupid diet fad, and it will die it's quiet death eventually (but not soon enough for me!) and 20 years from now everyone who went all carnivore on this "diet" will get colon cancer. i mean - fer cryin' out loud - stuff with BACON in it is being touted as HEALTHY now. WTF??!??!!! sorry. oops. went all hostile there for a minute. let's see... where was i... oh, yes, coke. lime coke is The Bomb. but the vanilla.... it's ok but i'd rather put a teaspoon of pure vanilla in a glass and stir it up myself, soda-fountain style. lemon needs some help - i love coke with lemon, but the lemon coke doesn't taste right. too chemical-y i think.
  • I dunno, frogs. Sure, the Atkins-as-religion folks are annoying, just annoying as their predecessors the %s-as-religion fanatics. But my much-loved, borderline-morbidly-obese sister has lost a lot of weight on it, more power to her. Better she get colon cancer at 65 (which she won't: despite your rhetorical flourish, she's not living on bacon and mashed potatoes) than a MI at 50 or type II diabetes at 45. Me, I like to exercise, which is a good thing because I also like to bake.
  • *chk-chk* That'll be enough about . . that diet. If one more person goes on it I'm going to have to start booting people in the groin area. Move along . . nothing to see here . . . wendell that nutrasweet stuff is gene-carving evil - stick to the good things like Jolt. mmmmm delicious, refreshing Jolt. And no one *told* me there was Mango! squeal!
  • well goetter, people who follow the diet do lose weight - better that than a stomach reduction surgery (now that i see as the harbinger of the downfall of western civilization - we have to remove 85% of our stomachs or we'll eat ourselves to death? christ.) problem is that most people who go on the diet don't couple it with exercise. they just go and eat meat, 'cause eating meat was always considered bad but now it's so good for you. people who have a medical weight problem ought to be incorporating doctor's advice, exercise, and a diet. i'm mostly pissed at the folks who think that no-carb + no exercise is doing them some good. these are the people who will gain back everything plus more when they fall off the bandwagon.
  • Mmmmmmm, stuff with bacon. I'll have another slice with my diet Pepsi, please.
