Death by lightning covers the likelihood of an animal being hit by lightning (in particular, giraffes).

The comments and links range far and wide, from how conductive running animals are to how susceptible dinosaurs may have been. There is a fun link to a YouTube clip in the comments too: Barney on giraffes v. dogs in a lightning storm.

  • I won't stick out my neck on THIS post, by Gully. In fact, one time I did humbly lie down in a sort of a shallow gully during a violent lightning storm out in the Jersey Pine Barrens. The strikes began by zigging from left to right diagonally to the front of me, and ended up bursting to ALL sides at once - like it struck at me, but I was too low...
  • Wow Dan Folkus! that sounds hairy and the Jersey Devil is an interesting digression. Lucky you're not a giraffe. You're not a giraffe are you? If you are you should put it in your profile.
  • On review: Lucky you're not a giraffe. You're not a giraffe are you? If you are you should put it in your profile. That reads totally snarky and I didn't mean it to be. My humour is suspect at times and I'd hate for this lame attempt to be misinterpreted. I did appreciate your mention of Jersey Pine Barrens, which I'd never heard of before and the information that a casual google led me to. I'm sorry I responded in an inappropriate manner after miscalibrating my response in reaction to your geographically revealing comment.
  • /Begrudgingly adds "I am a giraffe" to profile. /Makes sad face. /Uses prehensile tongue to chew on Acacia twigs. /Worries about overhead power lines.
  • Interesting post. Giraffes are amazing! No tellurian, I know your question was abrupt, but inquiring minds want to know if he is a giraffe. Dan, if you're a giraffe, it's time to come out of the closet. You're neck must be kinked by now. Sky's are clear. Wear your spots proudly! Love, BlueHorse (out of the closet since November 27, 2003, This will make my 11476th comment on MonkeyFilter--the majority of them loving snark. You giraffes out there, don't try this at home--in the rain
  • Giraffes always remind me of Jerome, the rare Canadian blue-spotted talking giraffe and his pal, The Friendly Giant.

  • "On the 6th of June last year I made a bet with my good friend, Jørgen. He didn't believe it was possible for me to collect one million giraffes. 440 days later I proved him wrong with help of people from all around the world. 102 countries helped out showing Jørgen how amazing the internet is." You can find all of the one million giraffes on this site.
