"E` la mamma."
No matter how old or how important you are in Italy, you'd better answer the phone.
"One-third of married Italian men still see their mothers every day; another third see them at least twice a week."
How often are you in touch with your mother?
"'Mangia, mangia?' Che cosa 'mangia, mangia,' Mamma? Come posso mangiare mentre comunico sul telefono?"
Mother Monster does tend to panic if I don't pick up the phone. And she usually comments on how many rings it takes me to pick it up. I tease her about it, but it does make me feel loved.
Come to think of it, every Italian I've known lived with their mothers until the day they married.
"How come you never call?"
