Map of online communities and related points of interest on genius webcomic xkcd. (previously) Kind of like the map you find at the beginning of a doorstop-sized fantasy book; maybe this should be the first page of the Web?

OK, so we're not on the map-- but only because, obviously, our location is classified. Shame-- I would have liked to see a TraciKraken emerging from the waves!

  • Whatever one may think of xkcd in general, I really like this map in particular: not just the way it visualises our beloved internets, or the nod to fantasy-maps in general, but the way he's done the "geography" (check out the compass rose.)

  • Update: work at the MoFiIC (MonkeyFilter Institute of Cartography) never ends! Due to Abiezer_Coppe's persistent lobbying, Primate Fenland, "the masseuse", from the Cathedral of Xyxx in Anonymous Georgopolis has decreed that there shall be an A.M. line to separate "special time" zones. This line is centered on the chapel and bisects Mofircistan. What this will mean for the residents of Mofircistan is currently unknown, but likely scatological. A joint expedition by the intrepid explorers, Lara and homunculus, into the Mountains of Eek has discovered a unique Necropolis in which Eeks are revived by Monkey cultists who converge to breathe new life into dead things. While this may seem a trivial discovery, we may now understand through this site the legendary origins of Daisy Malaysia. Also, the expedition has yielded the discovery of a new species of melon native to the area. Correspondence with the explorers on the subject has been scattered and poor, leaving only the cryptic, yet ominous, "Beware of the Vampire Watermelons". Te existence of these species has previously been dismissed as a folk tale from Werzogovinia, but this recent discovery has given the scientific community of New Sfilter pause. Back to you, Nancy.
