The Dry Valleys of Antarctica Amazing pictures of some places you didn't know existed.*
The terrain looks like something not of this Earth; the valley floor occasionally contains a perennially frozen lake with ice several meters thick. Under the ice, in the extremely salty water live mysterious simple organisms, a subject of on-going research.

Indulge in a little armchair touring and see fantastic minimalistic landscapes of rock and ice!

Wow, these are AMAZING PHOTOS.

I first saw images of these places in Eliot Porter's Antartica (a must-read for anybody into the Antarctic) but these are way better. The whole site looks tasty, in fact!

*settles in for extended browse session*

Hot bananas! Glorious images... thanks for the post!! Indeed, this site looks like a keeper.

These are fantastic, fantastical, and funtastic photos, Petebest.

This whole site is fantastalicious, and I do believe you should win the Post of the Month award!

(did I mention I like the post?)

Wow. That's my new favorite blog.

And now for the Mad Libs version of this FPP:

The ________(noun #1) looks like something not of this Earth; the ________(noun #1) floor occasionally contains a perennially frozen __________(noun #2) with ice several __________(plural distance) thick. Under the ice, in the extremely __________(adjective) water live mysterious simple __________(noun #3, plural), a subject of on-going research.

Absolutely stunning photos - makes even this winter-weary monkey want to visit.
And great site indeed, petebest! Thanks for that, and thus for a new-to-me Mr. Bean clip.

I especially like the Easter Island guy.

that blog rules

Cover-ups fascinate me.

I love how the blogger tries to pretend that the third picture is a rock formation caused by strong winds when it is so obviously the skull of a time-travelling futuristic alien dinosaur.

Fantastic site. Thanks for sharing!

Glad you liked it! I think we've discovered the potential location of Monkeypalooza 2010. Somebody get to work figuring out the toilets.

And fishy, wouldn't that clip make some awesome animated gifs?

Great link - thank!

Gee, thanks, petebest! You have effectively killed Monkeyfilter for me. This site has sucked me in. Fantastic. Dark roasted blend, indeed! And today they're on to Cthulhu. So long, farewell!

Hoisted by our own petard, eh?

This is far less frustrating than their earlier work Dry Humps of the North Pole
Sulking cos they've blocked Blogspot again
