The Tubewhore project. The London Underground: 12 lines, 275 stations, and one pink-haired goth girl's ambition to visit, photograph and blog them all. She has already created a few art projects based on her underground adventures.

Full disclosure: she's a friend of mine. However, I thought this project was interesting/insane enough to merit FPPing. You wants more links? Here's another good Tube blog and a rarity: a mirror of the notorious anagram Tube map which fell foul of the censors last year. Enjoy!

  • can one really be considered goth with pink hair? /derail
  • This is a splendid project, which I look forward to following. I came close two years ago to launching an expedition up the Northern Line. With my companion Jackson I should have done it in one-stop stages, walking overground from the last station reached to the next one up the line, and then returning by train until the next weekly installment. Alas, I think time constraints render this impossible for the foreseeable future. At least this means I will not have to argue with Jackson about whether the ultimate destination is Barnet or Edgware, and whether a side-trip to Mornington Crescent is really viable.
  • Pleg, This is a splendid project, which I look forward to following. Everywhere? You lurker, you.
  • Tubular.
  • I used to spend whole days on the tube, photographing. In particular I loved the West Ken station-very Victorian in those days. Everything seems so much cleaner than I remember it. And back then you could smoke on the trains-there used to be this wonderful stench of train grease, cigarette smoke and, oddly, buning coal. I can't help it-I love stinky bars and smelly tube stations. It's probably because I'm from Arkansas.
  • It really is a shame she's decided she's more interesting than the actual tube stations. It could have been a very cool project. Instead, it's a hedonistic goth wankfest. *sigh*
  • But wait... who is this?
  • Skrik, does that make this a self-link??? heehee! so I discussed it with a friend who I consider to be an absolutely authority on the subject, as we've decided that the best she can claim, with pink hair, is post-goth.
  • asand
  • ...what, not even perky-goth? Skrik, that is in fact my evil twin. She gets everywhere. Oh, and MonkeyFilter: a hedonistic goth wankfest
  • I thought that was the famous opera star Sally Panacea.
  • Cool idea. I would love to see someone do this with the clusterfuck that is the New York City Subway system.
  • FD, wouldn't any goth taking random photos of subway stations get shot on sight by the NYPD? (Or have they, you know, chilled out a bit?) Otherwise, subwayclusterfuck.com... I like it!
  • I started work some years back on something similar for the Paris metro, focusing on the entrances (which I find charming). But then my short attention span got in the way. Oh look! Shiny!
  • PA, NYPD only shoots to kill when it comes to minorities. If you are a white person with a some what outlandish style of dress they just assume you are a drug addict.
