Charge for access to your wireless network LinSpot 1.0.

Interesting possibilities. I know that I have a few neighbours who are close by and have shitty dial up. I’m looking into going wireless anyway, so why not have them foot my bill!

  • I just wonder about the ramifications that this might have for you. I doubt that most people are allowed to resell their bandwidth. I'm guessing this would annoy many an ISP out there. Cool idea though. I wonder if it's possible to do anything like this using non Mac products. I'd be curious to at least tinker around with it.
  • I'm not sure how the ISP would feel. I've already got four comps that use the connection all the time and occassionly one or two more. So, I'm not sure they'd notice. (famous last words i'm sure.)
  • It's a bit like subletting your flat -- completely illegal without the owner (in this case, of the connection)'s permission. Terms of agreement will specify. Having said that, we went halvsies in the US with our next-door neighbours and shared a cable connection wirelessly through the wall. It worked well, except that whenever the connection went down we'd have to wait till the neighbours were home, because the gateway was at their place. Back in NZ, we thought about sharing a high-speed connection with a friend who lives 1.4km away (yes, we measured) and getting a special antenna to boost the wireless signal. Didn't do it because we couldn't be bothered getting the antenna.
