Bananas weren't really cultivated widely or traded until the middle ages, so there wouldn't have been a 1st century Aramaic word for them.. I think at that time there were only a couple of varieties, & were still so full of seeds that they would have been considered inedible by 'Old Worlders'. Could be wrong.
Arabic 'Mautz' derived from some Sanskrit word which I forget, I think turns up in around 10th century. Too drunk to look for it.
