Kofi Annan Unsettles People, As He Believes U.N. Should Do.
An interesting old article.
Anyway, here's a short biography, and an Online News Focus from the PBS.
I remember reading an article in Time (I think) which was mostly a fluff piece, describing his family life and personality. Still, it made him out to be quite extraordinary, almost saintly. It seems surprising to me that such a person could actually get into a position of power, but it's also heartening.
Incidentally, he has a white Swedish wife. That's particularly appropriate for the UN (and perhaps one more reason the far right hates it).
