Cheeta is 74. Happy Birthday Cheeta.
  • That's great. What's that in Chimp years?
  • Two of his paintings have hung in the National Museum in London. Well, that's more than most of us Monkeys have been able to accomplish.
  • I was well hung in the National Museum in London. Does that count?
  • Happy Birthday you big ol' monkey.
  • I loved watching Tarzan and Cheeta on saturdays when I was a kid. Happy birthday, Cheeta. ))))
  • Oooh. The 'OOOAAAAAHHHH!' shout, swinging from a vine. The roaring lions. The silly chimp, doing all kinds of silly things. The silly chimp kissing Tarzan right on the lips. Ah, great childhood memories.
  • Wait a second, this chimp was the Cheeta in the movies of the 30s and 40s???? "Tarzan and his Mate" was made in 1932 when Cheeta was aged... let's see...2006 - 74 is um, zero.
  • This monkey is a lying' cheeta' *flings banana peel*
  • It's the TV cheeta, right?
  • According to the website in the FPP "Cheeta is loved for his roles in the Tarzan movies from the 1930's and 40's. Cheeta loves to paint ..." He also loves to LIE. Don't take any bananas from this monkey. He may have licked them or done some other yucky thing.
  • No, no, a whole plate of bananas for Cheeta! :D
  • "Tarzan & his Mate" was 1934. /closet Tarzan fan
  • Happy Birthday, ya big old hairy thing you.
  • If Cheeta starred in 1934 movie "Tarzan and His Mate", that makes him ..er .. (rapidly dregs up calculator) 2yrs at the time? A venerable chimp indeed. Heartening to know His Chimpness still lives, and well!
  • He was acting in his first year. I seem to recall from Tarzan the Ape Man (Weissmuller & Cheeta's first Tarzan movie) in '32, that Cheeta was quite small, easily carried by Maureen O'Sullivan.
  • I have all this information in my head, and not a fucking jot of it is useful AT ALL.
  • my perception of chimps was formed by cheeta and other young chimps. i was quite shocked when watching a jane goodall documentary years later to realize that adult chimps are (1) dark muzzled and (2) big mofos.
  • 74 is twice the expected lifespan of chimps in the wild.
  • "adult chimps are (1) dark muzzled and (2) big mofos." You should check out the new species of Congo chimp. They're twice as big as the biggest chimp, & nest on the ground at night, like gorillas. The natives call them the lion killers, cause they use group tactics to kill big cats. They're like a cross between gorillas and chimps, looking more like the latter on steroids. They're huge and only one photograph exists of them.
  • Chyren: Do you have any links at all to those bad-ass chimps?
  • MonkeyFilter: I have all this information in my head, and not a fucking jot of it is useful AT ALL.
  • chy's bad-ass chimps are discussed in this national geographic article. there's also the website of karl ammann, a wildlife photographer and conservationist who's been looking for the elusive apes.
  • Ohhh, fuuuck, I didn't know one had been shot. Check out the photo of the chimp carcass. That's a HUGE animal, and considering the strength of a normal chimp, these mofos must pretty much be able to fuck up a humvee.
  • Cheetas are perhaps like Lassies, they just go one an' 'tothering. Tactfully refrains from mentioning Lassie's gender confusions.
  • /closet Lassie fan.
  • Can a Lassie be a laddie comin' thru the rye?
  • MonkeyFilter: Do you have any links at all to those bad-ass chimps? I lubs me stuff taken out of context. Or should I say, recontextatated.
  • Ahhh, that's nice to see Cheeta found a new groove!
