Curling, curling with desire! (Quicktime direct link) The Swedish national women's curling team do what Swedes do best to promote their team: appear in a deathmetal music video with Hammerfall. It's in English! Here's the Windows Media link, too.

Still, a worthy post. Who woulda thunk... (Though without the foreknowledge that they are an actual curling team, I guess it would've seemed pretty dumb on Hammerfall's part to make such a weird-assed video)

Oh dear. Whatever the music is, this is sad.
I just know that I was watching it earlier this week and I found it quite delightful that one of the women (I think for Denmark?) was wearing big dangly star-shaped earings while competing. You don't see the downlhill skiers wearing dangly earings.
Damn. This made my day. A truly unusual cultural juxtaposition - not easy to do when you can't see the culture you swim in.
What I'm swimming in sure doesn't smell like culture.
Anyway, if I wanted to look at hot swedish chicks on frozen water I'd go over to mothninja's house and pelt her with ice-cubes but the restraining order is all like "NO WAY DUDE YOU CAN'T DO THAT ANYMORE - SIGNED JUDGE".

It's not juxtaposition. Curlers are hardcore. In the Olympics industry, we call them Core-lers. That's how hardcore they are.
Curling rinks, when I was first introduced to the grand sport, were invariably equipped with ashtrays and drink-holders at either end of the playing surface. Hence my enduring love of the game.
The only curling I do is on the bog.
