Underground History - disused stations on the London underground
Also, here are some pictures of the Glasgow Underground (link taken from a recent metafilter thread)
For example, look through the window as you travel between Tottenham Court Road and Holborn on the Central Line and you'll see a station - where no passengers have alighted since 1932.
I do that every time I take the central line and I never notice it. Sometimes I think I do, but I'm never quite sure if I'm just imagining it
Aldwych is the one from Spy School, right?
Wow.
That bears repeating. Wow.
I never should have opened this link at work - I can't stop reading!
That's where we keep our dragons.
I've always thought this whole subject was fascinating. I saw a documentary on Down Street Station a couple years ago.
In the early days of World War 2 as German bombs rained down, prime minister Winston Churchill and his ministers used Down Street as an emergency headquarters before a purpose-built bunker was ready.
Drat, didn't read far enough in the Down Street bit on the original link to see the tub was mentioned. Ignore my link.
So when are they going to get the rest of that ugly southern shithole underground and grass over it?
Great link dng :D
I love this stuff. London needs to reopen a few of these, York Way would be a good start. Thx dng.
