Virtual voices. The software is a "singing engine": type in lyrics and a melody and it carries out the complex mathematical operations needed to generate a voice singing the words to the right tune.

This is such old news. We've had synthetic popstars for YEARS.
But seriously, I think the ananova of pop is coming soon, especially since extensive processing and autotuning have gotten the popster's ear accustomed to synthy-sounding vocals.
