Rodney Matthews.
Roger Dean. Yoshitako Amano. Christos Achilleos. Ian Miller. (science fiction and fantasy illustrators)

Such varied and excellent sites, it will take me a while to look at everything. However, I oinked out on Rodney Matthews' work in particular -- many thanks, dng.
-
While I suppose he technically falls into the category of "fantasy illustrator" does anyone REALLY think of Roger Dean in any terms besides "That dude who did all the trippy Yes covers"?

Great link, dng. I love all this stuff, but I would stop a long way short of actually having a poster on my wall. That way Pratchett lies. I also love artists dealing with classic SF with spaceships and the like. People like Vincent Di Fate, Peter Elson, and Chris Foss. Peter Elson in particular was name-checked as an inspiration for the PC game Homeworld. And lets not forget the Terran Trade Authority Handbooks. Thanks for reminding me of all this!

I've scanned in a couple of books of excellent 70s science fiction art, which fit in with this thread (self links, obviously) Great Space Battles Star Quest Some of the art is magnificent. Especially Peter Elson's drawings (there's a gallery of his stuff here)

Actually, it appears that all that stuff on that gallery comes directly from the Great Space Battles book
