C'était un Rendezvous Paris, 1968, early one August morning. A Ferrari 275 GTB, going up to 140mph, makes it from one side of the city to another in less than 9 minutes. I think I love the sound of the car more than the video. QuickTime 35MB, via jwz
  • yeah, I saw this on metafilter this am, and me n mr medusa watched it. its cool, its fun, it made me dizzy. thanks for posting it here so I can tell people I liked it. mr medusa wants to do one in oakland, either fast, in our old porsche, or slow and like ironical in an old vw bug, cuz we're so wacky
  • hehe, do it fast, so you can jump the fruitvale bridge and land in my yard in alameda.
  • Man, this sucker's getting around like... well, like an irresponsible Parisian with a lead foot, I guess. Behold!
    MeFi -> jwz -> MoFi
    AskMe{
    AskMe -> MoFi
    Will it make it to MeTa? Stay tuned to find out!
  • I've been looking for a copy of this for years Cheers
  • And such empty streets. It looks so alien
  • Holy. Freaking. Crap. I think I just had a heart attack.
  • Nope, just crapped my pants.
  • as my son would say: vrrrooooooooommmmmmm... car!
  • Awesome. Simply awesome.
  • I saw this when MsVader put it on her LJ after seeing it on AskMe last week. I'm getting my husband to download it now so he can see it too. It really is something to see. Near the bottom of the monster MeFi thread, Civil_Disobedient posted a wicked cool google map with stills from the movie: the link is here, it's fabulous. I guess I should say that there too...but I don't want to get in that thread. Apparently only people with penises would think it was cool. I just don't have one. Weird.
  • I downloaded it last week, but I found myself underwhelmed after seeing some of these motorcycle speed videos: 1, 2. How about 336 km/h (208 mph) on a highway with traffic, for starters.
  • Awesome map, thanks.
  • livii I dont have a penis either, and I thought it was awesome!!
  • Oh for crap's sake, people! Again from the top! And a five, six, seeeven, eight!
  • Rolypolyman: the "psychopath" vid is great. "I've got to have a least a meter to get between cars. Otherwise it's just too close." "The real trouble is when cars don't signal. A lot of cars forget, and then you can't really brake so you just have to accellerate by them." (rough translations from the german translation of the original french) Petebest: Nothing wrong with posting a commented link to the front page in my book, if it's good. (which this was, imho) Anyway, your "call out" is not so original itself.
  • thank you so much for that Livii!!! ((( for you! btw... if it's not already painfully obvious, i don't read mefi... i like this place far better. oh, and (flings poo at petebest).
  • D'oh! Make that not so original itself. Damn karma.
  • I'd like to see someone try that in Tokyo.
  • That video is great; try playing it in fast-forward and it's just incredible. There's a video on the same vein in Screenhead somewhere, a time-lapse record of a guy's journey from L.A. to NYC on his convertible. Beautiful stuff. Lack the energy to find the exact link now. Low-batt, so to speak.
  • And no-one surrendered???? Who needs Gran Turismo! This is fab
  • That's a whole lotta pigeons going, "WTF!@!!1111" My clutch and accelerator foot are actually tired after watching that... thouroughly enjoyed. How in the hell did he blow that many red lights alive?? If I drove like that ANYWHERE for 30 seconds, some dumbass maroon would take me out with their low-situational-awareness. Awesome.
  • It is a cool movie, but yeah the sound of the car wins. and face it, it's got nothin' on the slot car movie - that sucker's moving at a relative 351 m.p.h. Um, or thereabouts.
  • I never could get the whole thing, but what I saw is quite impressive.
  • As someone who has been, a a pedestrian and cyclist, on the other end of speeding, red light jumping cars (yes, plural) this was not good to watch. My stress hormone levels went through the roof. I made it barely to Rue de Rivoli and then I had to turn it off. PTSD all over. Shite.
  • I agree with mare. I really don't like this video, not just because I happen to hate cars (although it surely factors in) but because *it is NOT staged* and these idiots are even proud of that! Unbelievable. old comment in French
  • watch the slot car video. it's better ;) welcome back Koant!
  • > welcome back Koant! Thanks, mate!
  • New info: not a Ferarri not a race car driver follow along with the animated Google map.
  • (the Ferrari noises were dubbed in later...)
